They used the term 'AF Gear' before since it's a familiar term to many to give people an idea of what type of armor to expect in a way, but it wasn't stated to be finalized as "Artifact Armor".

LoL great, more assumptions. Not that I have any evidence that it won't be tittled that, but it is kind of ironic that the question was answered by a few who were in other heated debates of assumption.

Does it really matter? People want to call it something till there is a confirmed name for armor sets. And since the majority of people are once or current FFXI players, it makes sense to call it that.
You have proof that "a majority" of the player base played FFXI ? Thats partially my point.
Sooooooo, yeah it matters in my opinion. Way too many posters already make assumption on these boards, then pass it off as information and create waves of misinformation. Much like I would believe your claim of knowing that "a majority" of the player base came from FFXI is assumption, and quit possibly false assumption at that.
Therefore I asked, because I would much rather be ignorant to the facts then to stupidly believe alot of information thats false.

So you truly believe that most FFXIV players were not FFXI players or played FFXI at one time? I shouldn't have to prove anything because it is common sense. How many topics and posts have you seen where FFXI's mechanics and content are mentioned? I would say almost all of them.
How many times have you heard "FFXIV does this, but it should be like how FFXI did it."?
There is proof for you. Randomly calling me out on it is kind of a "no point" situation, but I will throw a cookie at you, what the hell.

You could have just said that you don't have time to do it instead of giving an excuse. There are multicolored AF in the data files.
Plus, the topic is customization. Not different tiers. Different tiers should be built upon in how they are structured and not just a recolor. That's just laziness.
People wanted job identity, and the color just happens to be a part of that identity. Especially considering the traditions.
What you seem to be unable to grasp is that gear color is as much of a part of a Job's identity as the model it uses. It's no poor excuse as much as you'd like to think it is.
Here's a crazy thought, if you want "uniqueness" in the current system you can *gasp* make up your own unique gear for your classes that you can choose to not wear on any other but one class. There, problem fixed. Oh wait, no, that sounds retarded. Just like yellow Dragoons and green Black Mages.
