Nero and Crystal tower raid (spoilers)

Once again Im surprised by the heroes behavior. Yesterday the Garlemand officers were the enemies №1, but now what? They are friends? Why our strange heroes, when Nero appeared near the Crystal Tower didnt try to kill him or at least capture and bring him to the judgment and then, Im sure, he would be imprisoned forever?

I wonder why the behavior of our heroes so unlogical and totally stupid. Did the Empire disappear? No. Is Nero still the garlemand officer? YES! He is still the bloody enemy. So why noone cares about such enemy nearby?

I cant understand the stupidity on the storyline

It's been a long, long time since I did these quests, but if I recall correctly the feeling was that the Crystal Tower was the greater concern and needed to be dealt with pronto. Nero's help would get the job done much more quickly and so for the time being an uneasy truce was established. And, of course, when it was over, we lost track of Nero when he became corrupted by the darkness, and so couldn't haul him in once the truce had ended.

This kinda thing crops up in fiction all the time; good guys temporarily allying with bad guys when their interests happen to coincide. You're certainly entitled to the opinion that it wasn't handled very gracefully in this case, but I'm pretty sure that's what the writers were aiming for. Yeah, Nero is a bad guy, but in dealing with the Crystal Tower he was a USEFUL bad guy, and so we set aside our differences... for now.

Ok, maybe he is useful. But when he just appeared, noone even tried to offence! After the offence, after the Nero capture and after the breaking of his face and bones, ok, maybe after his "dont kill me, I have something to say", heroes can cooperate. But only after

Having just done these quests a couple days ago, I gotta agree with the OP that this story was... not well done, at least on the part of Nero. His presence felt very weird throughout the entire thing, as everyone basically ignores him and lets him do his own thing after he and Cid exchange a couple harsh words. The WoL and friends behave far too trusting to be believed, and his exchanges when you're in the Void (especially when running away) felt very out of left field for the way the character had been established up until now. I see what the writers were trying to do, but it was super clunky in execution.

That said, as I haven't quite exhausted all the quests in this game, I must know - are the plot threads of Nero and G'raha Tia ever picked up again? Or have they just been dangling since the last installment of the Crystal Tower? (Also, will SE ever grow tired of killing and/or metaphorically fridging all of their actually good characters???)

The only thing Nero cared about was upstaging Cid after he had left. Nero saw Cid as a rival and when the rival left he was unable to have that opportunity to prove he was better than Cid. That made him bitter and caused him to join the military because it would get him closer to Cid. Crystal tower was his opportunity to prove he was better than Cid, he wasn't lying when he said he had no ill intent towards them in terms of seeing them as enemies because his actual objective, the whole reason he allied with Gaius was so that he could settle his rivalry with Cid.

That's why when he loses near the end of the 2.0 story he doesn't sacrifice his life cause unlike the other members of Gaius gang who were happy to throw their lives away for him, Nero never had any intention of dying for him.

Nero was pretty much a free agent by that point. Giaus had operated without approval from the Garlemald mainland and with such a catastrophic failure Nero as the highest ranking survivor would face the blame if he returned home. He would be lucky if he wasn't executed for it.

Even as an enemy though, he came with clearly no intention to fight so its not like we are just going to lynch him. Instead he came with to offer a deal. He aids us and we allow him to tag along. Consider he is on Cid's level of technical genius and we were struggling with the Allagan tech which he had some experience dealing with, it was a compelling offer.
