Yeah, action-based fighting (like Phantasy Star Online/Universe, Star Ocean/Tales of, Tera, etc) is ten times better than auto-attacking garbage. But that's the route SE is headed, and nobody can stop it at this point.

that s why the FF fanboys base need to play different game before suggest. So, the past day I have been playing Blade 'n Soul. It made me miss the old "action" combat we used to have(ya know, pressing 111111). The game is in closed beta and is sooooo fun. I feel like I'm playing an... anime. It also has great animation for everything. Though the animation I like is the jumping/running. I am one of those people who doesn't like jumping, but the way they implemented them, it's, pretty/fun. You can even jump in the air and attack. All I have to say is, FFXIV would be amazing with a more action combat system like we used to have. So, they should have used their resources to build off that old system and not use AA.
sing: It s to late to apologize

Now you are demanding the franchise to have actually good gameplay? You are 10 years too late for that.
It is telling that a franchise with superior gameplay (Tales of) is vastly outsold by franchise with no gameplay (Final Fantasy). It is also telling that the "fans" want the franchise to go back to not having any gameplay like "the good JRPG's of the generation" (Lost Odyssey).
It is a hole that was not dug only by the developers but the fans who don't know what they want. Fans that put tradition on a pedestal while sacrificing gameplay in the process.
Betel you are either trolling or just ignorant if you think Tales of games have better combat than FF games cause they don't, they use the same tactics as FF does. Now you are demanding the franchise to have actually good gameplay? You are 10 years too late for that.

Spam attacks, nuke the mobs ele weakness and spam heal's to stay alive there are no real start's in tales game's except outliving your enemy.
As to this thread i think FF 14 combat is gonna be like Xenoblade where lot of skills are position based.

Basically the 3 chars you see are Shulk with the glowing sword he is like an CRT atk DD char/positional fighter
Then you have Ryan he has an gun lance with like an shield built onto it he is an Tank/DD
Then you have Sharla who is an Gunner/support/healer class.
Use a gamepad it makes it way more fun. if you dont have one use your ps3 controller, it works wonders on the action level. even with auto attack i actually get a sense of action with having to time my ability use, and and just watching my character whoop butt.
besides, what is action on a controller supposed to be? mashing the a/x button? gtfo >.<
lol scrolling left, right, up and down is definitely a niche taste.Use a gamepad it makes it way more fun. if you dont have one use your ps3 controller, it works wonders on the action level. even with auto attack i actually get a sense of action with having to time my ability use, and and just watching my character whoop butt.

i dont play this game on controller but i HAAATED white knight chronicles for thinking that type of gameplay was a good idea.
you seriously dont find it tedious and annoying not being able to just hit whichever button you keybound your ability to?
15 abilities each? what is this... Kindergarten?A jack of all trades WHM... what is this 1989?
I'll admit I do become conscious of it, but I'm used to it. It actually feels more like I'm playing a game than just sitting their zombifying like I did in XI. I find keyboard controls to be inferior for the feel of xiv although i prefer a keyboard on xi.lol scrolling left, right, up and down is definitely a niche taste.

A lot of rpgs have you cycle through menus to select an ability. Also, cycling through my menu gives a bit of down time between my skill animations, by the time I get to my next skill the animation has progressed far enough for me to actually select the next skill. Like I said, I'd really rather not mash x/a the whole time. Strategy is key to me, not button mashing. Plus things that are urgent cast are usually macros so that helps too.
If you've played any rpg with a controller, which I'm sure ALL of us have, then the feel for it kicks in naturally.
Most gamers today are just lazy. :/
It's hardly even a matter of efficiency either.
RPGs are very slow in action compared to how i enjoy playing MMOs. when i play an MMO i have a handful of abilities and go through very specific ability rotations that change according to my exact situation which changes depending on how many mobs and which type of mobs (bosses etc.)I'll admit I do become conscious of it, but I'm used to it. therefore, if you want to survive and thrive, lazyness does not exist in the realm of MMORPGs that ive played.
im constantly eyeing cooldowns, mob positions, and agro ranges while in combat.
My left hand is keeping up these various rotations, and my right hand is on the mouse controlling my camera angles and my characters movement/position.
these are things that do not exist in RPGs.
I play regular RPGs which you speak of to relax and i play MMOs because i want the action.
not really sure where you see lazyness in any of that.
i think if you were to replace your enjoyment of the arrow keys for a handful of keybinded abilities you might see what i mean as far as action.
WoW clones are all standard MMORPGs, however, there are two things that make them simulate ARPGs.
1 is the greater lack of ability locking
2 is the lack of scrolling and menus needed to execute abilities.
if 2.0s new seperate UI proves to be what i think its going to be, then i dont see how controller users are going to be able to keep up with some of us experienced hardcore KB/Mouse users. we have the advantage of several tens of keys right at our fingertips while controller users have to keep scrolling.

Too lazy to cycle through a list I mean. Its almost the same with a controller, just a preferred style. Sorry I shouldn't have offended keyboarders >.<RPGs are very slow in action compared to how i enjoy playing MMOs. when i play an MMO i have a handful of abilities and go through very specific ability rotations that change according to my exact situation which changes depending on how many mobs and which type of mobs (bosses etc.)

but honestly, the down right main reason I HATE key board with the action pallete is from #5-0
My hands arnt built for reaching aaaalll the way across a keyboard while keeping an eye on timers and positions.
I have to look down, see where my hand is and such. If I use keyboard, my right hand is either on camera controls or the mouse. Either way, my left and is handling all the skills and I can't deal with that. I know a controller without every having to take my eyes away, so I've adapted to its use. :/
I always supported the old battle system...and always was against the FFXI-like AA or the battle changes other than new animations...so i agree with OP.
I miss the original FFXIV mechanics...hopefully it will make a return as a spin-off game since they're already completely different games!
Would be a dream being able to go back to original FFXIV...specially if that patch adding interdisciplinary leves, party-based local leves and hamlet defense were also live by then! /o/
