besides, what is action on a controller supposed to be? mashing the a/x button? gtfo >.<
lol scrolling left, right, up and down is definitely a niche taste.

i dont play this game on controller but i HAAATED white knight chronicles for thinking that type of gameplay was a good idea.
you seriously dont find it tedious and annoying not being able to just hit whichever button you keybound your ability to?

I'll admit I do become conscious of it, but I'm used to it. It actually feels more like I'm playing a game than just sitting their zombifying like I did in XI. I find keyboard controls to be inferior for the feel of xiv although i prefer a keyboard on xi.
A lot of rpgs have you cycle through menus to select an ability. Also, cycling through my menu gives a bit of down time between my skill animations, by the time I get to my next skill the animation has progressed far enough for me to actually select the next skill. Like I said, I'd really rather not mash x/a the whole time. Strategy is key to me, not button mashing. Plus things that are urgent cast are usually macros so that helps too.
If you've played any rpg with a controller, which I'm sure ALL of us have, then the feel for it kicks in naturally.

Most gamers today are just lazy. :/
It's hardly even a matter of efficiency either.

RPGs are very slow in action compared to how i enjoy playing MMOs. when i play an MMO i have a handful of abilities and go through very specific ability rotations that change according to my exact situation which changes depending on how many mobs and which type of mobs (bosses etc.)
therefore, if you want to survive and thrive, lazyness does not exist in the realm of MMORPGs that ive played.

im constantly eyeing cooldowns, mob positions, and agro ranges while in combat.
My left hand is keeping up these various rotations, and my right hand is on the mouse controlling my camera angles and my characters movement/position.
these are things that do not exist in RPGs.
I play regular RPGs which you speak of to relax and i play MMOs because i want the action.
not really sure where you see lazyness in any of that.

i think if you were to replace your enjoyment of the arrow keys for a handful of keybinded abilities you might see what i mean as far as action.
WoW clones are all standard MMORPGs, however, there are two things that make them simulate ARPGs.
1 is the greater lack of ability locking
2 is the lack of scrolling and menus needed to execute abilities.

if 2.0s new seperate UI proves to be what i think its going to be, then i dont see how controller users are going to be able to keep up with some of us experienced hardcore KB/Mouse users. we have the advantage of several tens of keys right at our fingertips while controller users have to keep scrolling.

Too lazy to cycle through a list I mean. Its almost the same with a controller, just a preferred style. Sorry I shouldn't have offended keyboarders >.<

but honestly, the down right main reason I HATE key board with the action pallete is from #5-0
My hands arnt built for reaching aaaalll the way across a keyboard while keeping an eye on timers and positions.
I have to look down, see where my hand is and such. If I use keyboard, my right hand is either on camera controls or the mouse. Either way, my left and is handling all the skills and I can't deal with that. I know a controller without every having to take my eyes away, so I've adapted to its use. :/

I just want to throw this out there.

I've always known Final Fantasy to be a strategic RPG, not an action base RPG. Sure there is other games that is action base rpg like Tales etc, but that is because they've always been that way. FFXIII being the exception.

And a crappy one at that. Tactics Ogre, FFT, all wipe the floor in comparison to the main entries' "strategy", which translates to "this fire mob might be best beaten by using ICE MAGIC." What a puzzle!

first off, not to be offensive but i had to learn to move my hand across the keyboard without having to look at my hands because the pace of battles does not allow for that amount of time.
my friends are better at it than me, but they can essentially hit any key with their pointer finger without a second thought with almost perfect accuracy.
this effort (and probably talent) is to me the exact opposite of lazy and seems to me using menus is more of the easy way out.
why ride a bike when you can drive a car if both are staring at you in the face?

luckily for me my hands reach from the squiggly before 1 all the way to #8, ive learned to not have to eye E,R,F,T,V and B, but my fingers tend to slip when i keybind Z,X,C,G,H and Q
the short hand numbers are used for certain long lasting buffs and useable combat items.

it just saddens me this game was designed for the gamepad and not KB/Mouse.

im so sick of having RE-PRESS ENTER EVERY TIME I MOVE MY CAMERA ANGLE IN ORDER TO REACTIVATE MY ACTION BAR. btw, wtf is the point of activating your action bar anyway? why cant it at least stay activated until i press deactivate?

You only wish that was the case. There are worse and better strategic rpgs though. FF is just the worst.
