    No one is saying that. There are plenty of times where mistakes happen. you hop in front of a cleave, you get animation locked in an AoE, and there are world-wide undodgeable moves used by enemies all the time.

    The only thing people are saying is that unless you are playing extremely bad, or possibly not paying attention at all, you shouldn't die from just 1 or 2 hits, even as a caster, even if you are in melee range. you'll get healed by the healer if you do get hit, but it won't be to the extent that you should be really afraid of even the tiniest attack you may get hit by from being in melee range.

    Alot of casters stay in melee range all the time already, and they are doing just fine.

    It's just a different way of thinking, if a RDM is based around moving back and forth in terms of position, then the way to have to be aware of AOEs is different than DPS, Mages, healers and tanks.

    A Tank doesn't "dodge" attacks the same ways as the other roles in the game, they have to be aware of the ability names, know when to use their defenses and swap as needed in certain content.

    BRD/MCH/BLM/SMN have to consider the risk reward of standing still, placement of certain abilities, finishing the cast or moving away from the AOE.

    NIN/DRG/MNK move out of the way as needed, get an attack in if possible move to the proper location as needed.

    If anything RDM will fit in the middle, having to be aware of when they pull into the target and aware of when they jump back. The play style just means that when they dodge they have to have a more aware surrounding of their 360 compared to other jobs which is either on top of them or next to the boss.

    Oh, that does sound interesting, but I meant it to like cancel your action to immediately move backwards or forwards like bards or dragoons, which would make it defensive based class instead of having just another class that incentivizes taking aoes with high maintenance rotations and cast timers.

    yes, melees have higher HP than casters. but casters also have higher m-defense. since ALL raidbusters are magick-based (the high aoe damage), melees need the additional HP to survive them. a red mage melee in caster gear with high m-defense will not need it.
