I don't understand the question, because I have never seen a Caster die to physical damage because they were in melee range (not counting telegraphed or other avoidable AoEs... left sword *cough*).

I think I see even more caster dying because they are to far away. Not in range for AoE heals, eating one of those open-end conal tail attacks of some bosses...


I mean.. when melees usually don't lose a single hitpoint for being in melee range.. why should a caster need extra def.?
