    When you break down gear for materia, the gear on your saved classes, does it show as well? I don't want to accidentally destroy it.
    Is it possible doing main story and current class missions only get to max lvl?

    When converting to materia, you first select a piece of gear and then convert it. When looking at the pieces in the armory, all pieces currently part of a gear set will have a small icon on it.

    Just doing MSQ and class quests is nowhere near enough to reach max level. You will have to earn XP from other sources as well.
