    Coming back to XIV

hello I got this game way back when it first came out and I have to say it was so utterly horrible that i quit within 4 days. I have been looking into it for a while now and seeing all the changes that they are making and thinking about coming back either now or wait until 1.20. I was just wondering if you all think this game is really worth paying for when they put the monthly subscription fee back in place, i kinda wanna start playing again because they said in the producer live letter that people that stay into XIV now until 2.0 come out will most likely get some kind of a gift, but what do you all think? I also had to start a new character and everything in order to post here so I am thinking about deleting my character and start another one, what would you guys say is a good server to play on with a good community?

My view on this, as someone who has played dozens of games at launch

the game is worth paying for, if you understand that major developments are still underway at the same time

tons of content(especialy if you havent done a single thing yet) to do, lots more planned in the coming year including the version update(think expansion)

also, there is no "gift" for staying, unless you count exclusiv content thats getting removed for 2.0 a bonus(which it is)

Thanks I am think I might start when 1.20 comes out, if i can hold out that long. Only reason is because i dont wanna get to high of a lv. (if that is possible) and miss some of the achivements i might of gotten if i would of waited and started when the achievements where already in place. eh.... idk if that makes any sense or not but thats what im thinking about doing lol. Also i think i remember the producer said that people that stay now until version 2.0 might get something special, he didnt say anything concrete but he was hinting that, that gobbue mount would be given away. Are they not doing that anymore?

    lol..

On topic, you know it's free right now right? Come try it out. All your actions will get deleted in the next patch so today it's like a museum.

I did beta testing and stayed for about a month after. I came back for a bit then left again and now I have been back on this game full time for a couple months. It has gotten tons better and continues to do so with each update.

I do think the game is worth paying for. Not only are they making it playable but we will also get to experience storylines and dungeons that will not exist anymore after v2 comes out.

He id suggest rewards for ppl who stick thru it now and unique mounts such as goobue, drake and ahirmen where talked about. But nothing is concrete at this time. Anyway its worth the game time so come back. Coming back now or waiting til 1.20 is really your call but it would be worth it to get some lvls so you can experience more of what the game has and will offer.

So that means everyone in the whole game is going to start over?

no, nothing is getting reset, period

neptune is full of it and whines and complains about everything

the story is being removed(how much of it we dont know for certain, and wont know for a long time) and replaced, the world will be "changed" for the most part over time(in the next year) but everything else will remain the same give or take the checks and balances they are doing

Ignoring Neptune's sorry existence, depending on what rank your classes are, it might be best to wait until next patch since that is when the class reforms happen (i.e. classes will be balanced and stand out from one another). SO you will get to experience them as you level. and be accustomed to the new changes.

Depends on what you want in your game.

If you just want a game where you can grind out levels, chat, waste some time (not necessarily a bad thing), Then the game is good. most of the UI problems are fixed.

But while the Skeleton of this game is coming together nicely, in my opinion (and many others who grew up playing 2-D square games) it still lacks meat. The game is still not very engaging. It doesn't make you care like a good book you can't put down, the way FF's in the past did. It's still hard to care about any particular event or zone or NPC or even your own PC.

IF you are just looking for the 'thrill of Lvl'ing and acquiring gear' then this game is sufficient, but if you are looking to be sucked in by the experience, it's not there yet.

MAYBE that will change with 2.0, but most of the changes they have suggested are coming are skeletal in nature. They still haven't thoroughly identified and commented on how they plan to make the storyline and game experience as engaging as square's other games.

The 'pat' influence of Enix's dragon quest series in heavily laced into the fabric of this game. If you dig that, which is alright by me, then the game is probably ay-ok for you.
