DEV REQUEST (again): The Emperor's New Shield

I don't know why people to do add an extra feature that was never intended for a class like paladin. Sure it is cool to think that duelists were those knights in battle. But even knights got their shield when in battle and only dropped it when they were in close range 1vs1. If people want to roleplay, they can just disarm their shield.

Honestly the same could be said of Summoners wanting to have pretty Egis. It was never intended for the job but due to demand (a large bit from the roleplay community) it has been changed and there is nothing wrong with asking for changes in the esthetics. I don't fault the friends I have that rp with their Carbunkles (sp?) and sort of wanting it for game play. Males play women for the look, people dress odd for dungeons for holidays (so many snowmen in dungeons on xmas), we should be happy, not salty because someone made a request for something we had no interest in and got it. Be happy that with such large RP communities on several of the larger servers we as roleplayers are not ignored. Its nice for once to be chattered to.

What I don't understand is all of the arguments that it would "stray too far from the jobs identity" and "lore" and "invisible shield makes no sense" and so on and so on in this game of magic called Final FANTASY. People don't seem to grasp that it's a glamour either. A magical spell. In a land of Fantasy. Glamour originally was a term applied to a magical-occult spell that was cast on somebody to make them see something the spell-caster wished them to see, when in fact it was not what it seemed to be. It's magic. It doesn't need to have a logical explanation or to make sense.

So we have this amazing world of Fantasy and Magic that people want arbitrary restrictions on forrrrrrrr.........reasons.

This doesn't just apply to the Emperor's New Shield people want. This applies to all glamour requests that have been posted to these forums.

Want a tank without a shield but with a sword? Play DRK.

Couple pages old, but I'd like to provide the counterpoint of "What if people don't like the over exaggerated overswings of the greatsword animations, though?"

Because I want any class, DPS or Tank, that uses a European styled sword, without a shield, and isn't doing those ridiculous overswings that they use on the DRK's greatswords. It's silly to make the comparison.

That is main issue there...Unlike monk, paladin animation and abilities rely heavily on their shields. A whole new list of animation would have to be input in the game for that single glamour. I believe that the Reddit forum OP submitted to us is saying that there is a Emperor's New Shield, will only be displaying a sword during non combat situations or use of abilities. I cannot see any other form it would take besides that without heavily investing in new animations or skills.

No, no new animations would need to be created, and they aren't going to be created. It will look awkward, it will look stupid, but its what the people want, and apparently, enough people want it for them to even consider putting it in the game.

Let people do what they want.
