DEV REQUEST (again): The Emperor's New Shield

Yes, yes, I know, its been asked for before.... Its not realistic (though blocking the punch of Titan with it is ok for some reason).... It'll never happen.... More important things to fix.... on and on and on. Yes I know.


Now with that out of the way let me get to my point. As has been stated lately DEVs listen to upvotes. I was hopeful to get upvotes of this post if you too want to hide your often times ugly shield. I mean come on, with the power behind some of the mobs we face, surely a shield or your armored gauntlet make little difference. I love shields, I really do, but sometimes, some glams would look better with out the board.

So what do you think? You wanna be an even bigger fantasy knight? Think I'm stupid for asking? Do you think the cash shop is bad? Nevermind that last one.

"liking" the post is of course, an entirely one-sided conversation. which means gauging something on likes is probably the worst way to do anything because it isn't able to gauge dislike for an idea.

yes to more bucklers, no to invisible shields. if you can't make glamours work that's your creativity failing, not the game's fault. if you want a sword job that doesn't use a shield, wait for something that isn't Paladin.

I agree with you whole heartedly it is a bad way to communicate my desire, but this is the documented way by which the attention can be gotten by the DEVs. I am currently at work so I cannot look up citations of where it was said but in a nutshell they take note of LIKEs and reply counts. So as an advocate of this addition I have little recourse but to frame it like this.

As I said at the bottom in a joking matter, feel free to debate the merits or lack their of below. I apologize for the limited scope of the thread, but this is something I would really like added to the game and don't have any other real way to express it.

That is main issue there...Unlike monk, paladin animation and abilities rely heavily on their shields. A whole new list of animation would have to be input in the game for that single glamour. I believe that the Reddit forum OP submitted to us is saying that there is a Emperor's New Shield, will only be displaying a sword during non combat situations or use of abilities. I cannot see any other form it would take besides that without heavily investing in new animations or skills.

Well, I mean if you look at the shield bash animation and imagine it without a shield, sure looks like you're stunning the monsters with a firm pimp hand to me.

Plus if the thing Shippu pointed out on Page 1 is correct, it would make sense to introduce the Emperor's new shield with the Garo event. Having Garo be tied to PLD is a bit odd since well...he's never had a shield. So giving that option makes sense for the Garo Collab.

I suppose the expectance of this request lays solely on where your suspension of reality lies.

For some there is the "pull yourself by your bootstraps" mentality. Like the gent in the first reply shows. An automatic dislike of the idea due to a desire for clear boundaries, not a bad thing in and of itself.

Another group in in actuality based on realism, with some claiming tanks in no robes and shields as a must due to the physical damage they are seen to take. Doing so without a barrier of metal disrupts their immersion.

The other sub group is where I am, that no shield, no matter how strong, no armor no mater how strong, would take what we see taken, so my immersion was dusted a ways back and I have excepted it and now just want to look esthetically pleasing to myself.

All three types are valid in their arguments.

The shield on the back sounds fun, but for me I would like at least a command that hides the shield, the way the Summoners will soon change their Egi, or at most an EN item to completely hide it as the Monks got for their claws. That is my hope.
