    Newb friendly PVP events?

With the new event coming up involving PVP, this is probably our biggest chance to increase the size of the PVP playerbase. To that end, we should do what we can to ensure they have fun and stick around after the event is done.

Let's have a regular event where we make an effort to fill up non-ranked PVP modes (Leaning towards 8v8 rather than frontlines as it requires less people, more of a chance to create fast queues), and advertise it as open to newbies. Let's give them an opportunity to play without taking hours to get in.

Most importantly, we should expect to lose. Try your best to explain how things work in PVP, have patience, and even if you lose try to have fun with it while we farm our wolf marks. Just because they're awful now doesn't mean they'll stay awful, and if we chase them out the community will never grow.

Dueling is a great way to get new players introduced to what it feels like to PvP with very little stress involved. Hoping into a 72 man or 8v8 can be a lot to take on all at once.

While this is true, it lacks the incentives. New players need to seek out PVP, and correct me if I'm wrong but does dueling offer any rewards? Not to mention it's not very doable/exciting for healers (hence why I haven't done it, still need to get off my rear and level some other classes to 60.)

My hope is to take some of the players who hop in to get wolf marks for the new event, and have them realize "Hey, this is actually fun!" And that means doing it in a mode where they actually get marks.

You're a good man Urth and the pearly gates await you at journey's end. I'll be content with the crispier path. Im literally going to go out of my way to blow away as many noobies as I can. While I do not sanction being rude even slightly to new people, neither do I support lying to them and sugarcoating their experiences. You're here on these blessed killing fields to learn how to off me..and Im here to simply end you. If ye can accept those terms, welcome aboard. If not *click-click* give Haurchefant my regards.

Oh, I don't mean to lie to them, or to show mercy to the other team. I simply mean to do what we can to reduce their queue time for the event (in the hopes that enough people stick around to permanently reduce queue times), and teach our own teams what we can to help them improve (and this means doing our best to be calm and informative, not yelling at them)

As someone who's never PVPed in FFXIV (yet... still new here) but did a bit in WoW, I can say that what got me into PVP was good players taking the time to show me the ropes when I was floundering. After a bit of one on one training with a few great players, I achieved mediocrity, allowing me to win as much as I was losing. It was a lot more fun when I wasn't just constantly losing all the time, so I spent more time doing it, eventually reaching level of skill where I was regarded as good... not great, but I got a lot of premade team invites, which was was a lot of fun.

I guess, that is to say, if you want more players, take some interest in your friends that might otherwise suck at it. Of course, I have no clue how things play out in FFXIV PVP, so grain of salt and all!
