Nah I'm not confusing the two stance at all. I also don't agree with the your comparison to an Ice Mage as DD's (Damage Dealers) main role is to kill the things. The tanks main role is to hold hate. Also while I'm at it the healers main role is to keep people alive. Anything beyond that is secondary and completely optional. It's great to have those players who go above and beyond but not doing so hardly makes them a waste of a party slot.

But what's the difference? Even an Ice Mage is still doing damage. They don't have to do more damage than that if they don't want to!! It's their sub!!! There is no difference between a DPS who isn't trying to do their job at all and a Tank who mashes their enmity combo and nothing else, a Bard who never sings, or a Healer with 0 total damage over the course of a fight.

This has definitely strayed away from mentioning Wanderer's Minuet (though it is still very much about it).

If they're with 3/7/23 other people, it's also their subs, so by that logic they should be free to kick you for doing intentionally poor dps.


Let's be quite clear here: roles are not primary professions, nor the limit to your responsibilities. They are specializations that make you the best fit for certain secondary functions which improve upon the raid's primary function — to clear the encounter, generally in as little time as possible.
