Id love to be able to make a Divine Armor look for my WHM like I had in FFXI...
I can understand not allowing weapon glams to be lifted but everything else. No biggie.
Those saying they dont want a DRK to look like a WHM..
Well honestly said it doesnt matter? You only see that person maybe once in a duty and its done with.
PVP none of the glam matters cause your name show up to others as your job.
If there is anything that has held its integrity and unique identifier in this game it is Weapons and Artifact Armor as both are tied to lore. The rest is not.
Many players in this thread requesting Glamour Restriction removal, to include Artifact Armor. Have not even taken Yoshida's original advice. Requesting a specific Armor Style for "insert" job(s).
Example:
A Divine Breastplate set for Mages, with visual references have been posted in the Request Thread for months, yet it needs more support from the playerbase.
I think image is incredibly important to FF games and even in FF games where they have goofy stuff (like all of them lol), there is still great care on how things are presented. I have massive respect for FF artists in their ability to make a high fantasy scenario that is so grounded at the same time you could say it's immersive (banished word! lol), with (usually) well timed whimsical nature. I actually think that this ability is why they're easily famous internationally, like comparing a Ghibli film to some other high quality but lesser accepted Japanese animation (the way it's done makes it accepted easily and across varying cultures/views).
I do have to admit that 70% of the glamours I see are actually pretty cool or at least reasonable, so I'm not sure it'd be as bad as I think, but I still value and believe that FF is not randomness and that allowing all gear is actually strongly counter to FF spirit (they've mastered the maelstrom). Also to add to that 70% is that they're restricted to like jobs, so of course even if the items are not the same the image usually flows correctly. Many FF games do not actually have job system but even then their look is so well done that you could easily say what they are equivalent to, there is very little confusion on what their role is (at least until you max them out, then everyone does everything lol).
That said, and I feel bad I can't remember his name atm.. will edit if it pops up, but I saw an awesome idea about aesthetic merits - and loved some suggestions on merits unlocking usually illegal glamours. Like the WHM being able to wear a set of gear SE feels matches WHM theme enough it makes sense, so you could have your Divine Breastplate armor for example. Or maybe a hard to get merit allows your BLM to deck out in an armor that looks similar to Golbez (although iirc he has a big sword, so if he had to be placed at this point that's more DRK). Because admittedly we do have many examples of characters who break mold, but imo SE doesn't break mold like a drunk Bob Ross - if they break it they're still sober Bob Ross :P. So I think merits could be a really neat way to allow strong FF image without just throwing everything out the window and losing the last threads of identity (they exist, and therefore there is plausible argument to keep them). Anyway liked the idea of EXP not being useless at max level, still gaining things, and it seemed a fairly neat way to unlock some iconic breaking of the rules as well (WHM in holy breastplate for example). Of course they could just add more items that fit an image they approve and allow it to jobs, Divine Breastplate WHM item found in X dungeon, but I imagine given enough time an aesthetic merit system would be far less expensive and allow people to use gear they wanted to use anyways rather than generate new slight variations. (Some merits could be job specific, others being "unlock X for all tanks").
I'm aware that we have goofy outfits that make things hard to recognize, but we do still have weapons even at that point (which I think allowing out of job weapon glamour is a bad idea, but I think will never happen due to animation reasons). Also most of the super goofy stuff is so goofy you really need to be into the bit vs if we unlocked everything and I think that'd happen far more often then (breaking natural image goes from 60 to over 9,000 in an event like that, again meaning argument against it is still standing even if its not 100% one way). I actually almost never see the pig (maybe because of how they priced it too). I understand we're not on a perfect plane of consistent image, but that doesn't mean we have to jump off the ship with an anchor wrapped to our feet either lol. I think SE is riding compromise right now, so rather than throwing it all in the water perhaps they can add some other ways?
Also props to Balmung, when I first thought of the glamour system I did a cat hurl, but for the most part they're actually pretty good. Silly ones here and there but the amount of silliness almost fitting to a whimsical SE nature. I think that's why I'm not sure but worried if we remove the restrictions all together, at this point I think we're good - and I could see a few illegal options allowed manually to be awesome as well.. but to fully unlock it sounds like just ruining an acceptable balance and making visual chaos. Since we stand on a point of compromise I understand why people full for it are like "you have no argument" but that'd be incorrect since we're not 100% that way, neither are we in full restriction zone anymore either. Personally hope we can maintain a happy medium and am open to specific unlocks/new gear that are unusual but still FF fitting. (Not Heavy Allagan on the Ninja for example)

Casters arent in this category , they are very limited in their glamour option thus having alot of them looking pretty similar. The least they can do is give all jobs the same glam options as tanks that being normal tank gear, dow gear, and caster gear or all classes gear.
I suppose it depends on what item you're suggesting but I can agree there are a few pieces of gear I'm not sure why they're locked besides the fact that's how the system works. Like I don't think unlocking heavy tank armor (Heavy Allagan as an example) on a scholar/ninja is a good idea (for multiple reasons), but if you were saying "why can't I wear that cloth skirt!?!" you have my ear :P.

I think it just needs a specific thread with examples like these made and the playerbase supporting it. Updated and redefined Reverend Mail and the Divine Breastplate sets would look great in this game.

Im not seeing the issue everyone has with casters in metal gear, especially for male casters, Id prob never run a male caster because the gear all looks tailored to female roles. The system could go alot further than it is now, and Im really hoping that it does and we get less restriction over time. I think common ground options where pointed out in throughout the thread, something like a glamour filter, most in opposition opposed this which actually I think all did. And I mention that with this job specific gear we could make it to where players couldn't place a full set on a different jobs gear on, but stuff like boots, gloves and pants, could be glamed because they really arent that distinctive. I mentioned hats also but hats are a little more job defining, and chest pieces of course, these two pieces are really the only thing that stick out enough to identify what job it is.
