We'll be getting an official announcement at the Frankfurt Fanfest, but that won't be until February. So, what are your wants/speculations for the new residential area? Idyllshire, Ishgard, Ala Mhigo, or somewhere else entirely?![]()

I think it has to be a place people without the two expacs can access.. what does that leave us with?
Ishgard please. I'd rather not have my FC's house in Garlean controlled territory....
I would love Ishgard, or an underwater bubble dome housing area. Maybe even a housing area in the sky.
Possibly in Idyllshire as it continues to get rebuilt and expanded on.
I think such a feature within the expansion would be quite awful not only for people who don't own them but also to those who will be just starting the game. It's a long way to HW when it's your first time, especially if you like to explore everything the game has to offer. Would be completely different if we didn't have to go through the story to get to the expansions, though. We'll have Jumping Potions, but I won't argue about I don't want to digress too much.
I didn't finish HW yet, but Mor Dhona seemed like a reasonable place until the end of post-ARR events. However, if they're going for a snowy area it would be nice to put the entrance in Central Coerthas, which wouldn't be too nonsensical seeing as how some Ishgardians live there. It's also a very reasonable choice bc we have residences in the middle of the desert, the forest, and by the beach. A snowy area seems like the next step and although Central Coerthas isn't chronologically close to the beginning of the story, it's still not as far as HW. I mean, not considering the Jumping Potions...
Why should every given housing area have to be available to everyone regardless of expansion ownership? Another way of putting it: why shouldn't an expansion include a housing area that is exclusive to that expansion. "It's not fair to those who don't own the expansion" isn't a valid argument, since getting new content that isn't available otherwise is the whole point of buying an expansion. By the same token, "It's not fair to those who are just starting and still have to progress a long way to get there" isn't a valid argument for similar reasons: people progress to gain access to new content that isn't available otherwise.
I'm not saying that new housing areas should never be in areas that are available to everyone, but rather I'm just calling out the expectation that they should be.
I don't think they'll lock anyone out of housing simply because some FCs cater to both new and old players and no one wants to lock anyone out. They could just make a special airship station to go to the new housing district regardless of location though. I'm not so sure how well a snowy area would carry over. I think the bland white areas would make them about as popular as the Goblet housing (usually the last to fill). I'd like to see either a spooky dark forest or another location lush with water/plant life all over. Possibly more of a jungle/temple type housing location vs Lavender Beds. It'd match well with the usual generic green lawn. I'm hoping that not only is moving ready beforehand, but more larger variety houses are in each ward as more and more people are vying for them now.
I still think it would be a good idea to introduce FC-only housing areas with instanced but larger plot sizes, and a small number of large plots outside that would have really big yards. And, Ishgard should be like all apartments and large mansions.
I'm thinking it'll be in Ishgard since that is the 4th City-State, and each City-State has housing.
