    I haven't been able to get into this novice network channel at all, the channel is ticked on my chat channel, but neither /n or /novice allows me to chat in the channel, it doesn't appear in the chat selection thingy either.

    (assuming you are a Sprout) you have to be invited by a Mentor to access the Novice Network. Find someone with a crown by their name and ask if they could invite you to the channel. If you're not a Sprout or a Mentor, you cannot get access to it.
