After playing Final Fantasy XV and experiencing all of its glory including the portable MP3 player that allowed players to listen to any song desired as they explored the world on foot, I felt inspired to write this post because adding the same type of mp3 player didn't seem out of the reborn realms of XIV.
I would like to officially request that Final Fantasy XIV add some type of portable orchestrion so that we can change the current music being played within any area and or instance to something that we would like to listen to. Don't get me wrong, some instances and areas have very appropriate music that gets the adrenaline pumping during the desperate struggles we encounter; however, some songs tend to get a little repetitive over time and it wouldn't hurt to listen to something else (I'm looking at you Alexander 11 Savage). Please put some thought into adding some type of MP3 device or option that allows us to select music being played in a current zone. It honestly seems like it would be a pretty simple implementation and a very fitting addition to the many new features being adding during Storm Blood.
Disclaimer: The music I want included on the Portable Orchestrion Mp3 Player would be all FFXIV music that is played on the Orchestrion we already have implemented in game. I'm not necessarily asking for a similar mp3 player to FFXV that allowed us to play music from all the other Final fantasy games, although I wouldn't say no to it if that were to happen. FFXIV has always sort of been an amusement park for all the other Final Fantasies so I don't see why we couldn't also have music included on the orchestrion from the other final fantasies. We already do whether it was literally copy and pasted or remastered.
I would also like to take the time to request that more songs also be added to the orchestrion. There are quite a few songs that have been ommited from the FFXIV orchestrion playlist for unknown reasons to me including songs like:
Many songs from the 1.0 era:
Twin Faces of Fate (1.0 Ul'dah Theme) & other 1.0 Town Themes
Supply and Demand
Daring Dalliances
Aetherial Slumber
Mini Songs in 2.0 & 3.0 areas:
Saint Coinarch's Find
First Dicasterial Observatorium of Aetherial and Astrological Phenomena
Song played in Anyx Trine
All of the above mentioned songs are just examples of things missing from the orchestrion and is not a complete list. Many songs created by Nobuo Uematsu during 1.0 were assassinated and brushed under the rug and I really don't understand why. They were amazing compositions, so I'd like to see those also added to the orchestrion despite the fact that they may not be songs played within the current FFXIV game. It would give us players who played during 1.0 a little bit of nostalgia being able to change the current 2.0 music back to the 1.0 music as we pleased. I don't know about anyone else, but I can't really imagine Ul'dah without its original theme.
Thank you, everyone, for taking out the time to read this and please also take out the time to give it some consideration. It may be hard to understand but some of the final fantasy player base literally play the final fantasy series time and time again because of the fantastic music that it brings to its game. Music is what often captures the true essence of an area in which a player is visually experiencing and tells the viewer what exactly they should be feeling in that moment when they are exploring the world. Music was much more integral back then when graphics weren't as flattering as they are now because they completed the picture being painted when graphics were incapable of doing so.I still believe, however, that music plays an very integral role in gaming experience and enjoyment just as much as its visual counterpart does, despite graphics being at the level they are today. With that said, I think that topics like these merit attention.
