I'm just brainstorming, really (I'm a software developer - it's in the job description). The fix would be to free up a character slot without completely erasing that character's data. Different problem than what OP is on about, but it would have the effect of turning that character off on the server in question.

Also, there's no need to be so hostile to a new idea. Yes, FFXIV has a small Dev team, but as you've so eloquently and kindly pointed out, it's not really that big of an issue. Ideas are good, and developers like having a backlog of small enhancements they can add when they get 2-3 hours here or there (as a developer, such lists are my bread and butter).

This doesn't really solve either issue, because it assumes the desire is to stop playing altogether--neither OP's problem nor the one I've highlighted would be addressed by uninstalling the game.
