Meh, most of the time it is because people either stop playing all together or want to play a different class while keeping the same name (this counts more for other mmo's then ffxiv tough)Because people are dumb.
"I am addicted to MMOs / have other problems that are a result of my weak personality, so I will make sure that I have no reason to come back by deleting my character!!!"
a few months later
"Waaaaaaaaah why is my character gone waaaaah such a bad idea why I am I so dumb ;_; "
If you are so addicted, stop paying for a sub, problem fixed.
Is this memes?

Deleting your character is not something to take lightly. It's not like cleaning out inventory or something, its a character.
I think the limit is fine. And hell I'd be fine if they did away with the one time allowance and left the deletion as permanent. There is absolutely positively no reason for you to delete your character unless you don't want to play that specific character anymore, ever again, and are deleting it to make room for another.
Want to quit the game? Leave your character there, in case you come back.
Having drama going on you want to escape? Server transfer, name change, fantasia, or just blacklist and ignore them. Or make an alt to play on till things die down.
I see absolutely no reason why completely deleting your character would be the right move. Again it's not something to just throw around all loosely, its deleting a character. Be thankful they even let you restore it once.

I can understand why you might do it once and regret it, but if you then do the exact same thing and expect to be bailed out again it's getting silly. It takes up the time of customer service personnel who could be helping customers who didn't voluntarily destroy their own account data.

I mean I get it if it's once.... But twice??? Sounds like you're one quick to overreact to drama.
I'm not sure people are understanding the OP's point, SE have a one request per ACCOUNT restriction, not one request per CHARACTER. In the case of FFXI a 'request' is a single 'character', while in FFXIV as I just discovered a 'request' is up to two characters.
So, those arguing about multiple restorations per character simply don't understand the reality, and I don't think the OP is talking about that issue.
It your own personal choice to delete your character regardless of what the reason is. When XIV came out I stopped playing XI to play XIV with no plans play XI anymore but I left my character data in place, guess what earlier this year they had a free login period and I decided wth and decided to login and since I didn't delete my characters they were still there for me to play. So deleting your character(s) is your own choice/fault they not there anymore and no reason to change the 1 time restore rule.

I believe in the opposite to the OP. I believe they should do away with it ENTIRELY, if you delete your character too bad, even if you were hacked and it got deleted (unless it was due to an SE server breach that caused the hack). Also, requests to the GMs about stuff like this should just not get any response, even automated. Repeatedly do it then the GMs WILL step in, but only to permanently ban you without appeal. Same with item restoration if you ask me.
White Mage ~ Scholar ~ PaladinBoi if you got kicked for the same thing in over 20 duties I strongly suggest you think hard on whatever the hell it is you're doing
As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.
Wow, who pissed in your cheerios?I believe in the opposite to the OP.
