    Oh, I understand why some people would be thinking along those lines; they should just remember how FFXIV gameplay actually works. Sometimes the community gets caught up in imagining how a given Job should be like its incarnation from Final Fantasy XYZ and forgets that a lot of what worked in previous entries in the franchise absolutely does not work here.

    Technically casters are ranged too, they just distinguish physical ranged as support and magical ranged as damage dealers. BLM, SMN, MCH and BRD are all counted as ranged dps in the feast, for example.

    Looking at the last line on this slide I think it is geared towards more damage-dealing. I kind of wish it was a support though, give it refresh and regain to mimic promotion and ballad/paeon, or maybe en-spells to reduce magical or physical vulnerabilities on enemies.

    One would think it's not a ranged support role in the way MCH/BRD are.

    TO BE FAIR, most classes match MCH/BRD in utility. The support tag comes purely from our mana regeneration which is silly. RDM could still have plenty of utility just like everyone else while still being "pure dps."

    Yes, Yoshida explicitly stated that Red Mage is pure DPS type when asked whether it was going to be support-oriented or pure DPS.

    That being said, it WILL probably have some kind utility skills, but people shouldn't set themselves up for a disappointment nonetheless.

    Somewhere back in the past, In a thread asking what we wanted to see in future classes, I mentioned wanting a class that positioned to and fro, rather than another that moves side to side. Mentioning Red mage as a possibility (or some sort of mundane explosives user) so, I mean, I'm pretty happy.

    Im so excited! I re-subbed just for RDM. I have been complaining since 1.0 because i wanted a spell-sword(not pally or drk though i like drk). I think it will be mostly obvious how it plays with all the info we have. There really arent that many options if you consider the game balance and current mechanics as well. First off If Yoshida said pure dps.. then no heals. Then we can only assume:

    It uses speedy positionals.
    Chainspells -assumption: cant be a fancy name for 123 combo. or they would have said combo...right? There has to be something else to it.
    Black Magic -assumption: Combo finisher that is something like a Flare from BLM
    White Magic -assumption: Most likely Aero or something damage based from the WHM job. If not damage based, and not a heal, whats left? Stone? Esuna? Cant be.. hm..Haste? Wait, speedy positionals.. hmmmm...

    Im willing to bet RDM has Earth, Fire, Lightning, Water, and Aero spells from WHM/BLM or a 123 spell combo of similar type magics. Im betting that RDM builds stacks similar to monks greased lightning with those spells in ranged positions. As well as lunging abilities to get in, or out of melee range and dodge larger aoes. It will most likely be squishy and die fast. It will probably use magic based melee attacks that can keep the chainspell stacks flowing.

    Another possibility for chainspells is something like warrior's wrath stacks. Spend your wrath to use an innerbeast type move.(The flare thing)
    Or...
    Ninja-like: What skills you use, and in what order cause different end results to be cast.
    Either way i can hardly contain my excitement until summer x_x

    Agree, i would never want to see a similar role as in XI, aka being a refresh/haste whore and babysitting BLMs

RDM could get a similar ability/spell that your normal gameplay discourages using but is there in case things go south. Of course, being able to cross-class Cure and have something that lets it scale with our stats to be stronger than a character with 0 MND while being well below WHM would be fine too.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
