I actually like tanking, and have done it regularly in other mmos, but you can see by looking me up on the Lodestone that I have only recently started leveling a tank. I think a lot of people are like me - I prefer to learn content in games as a dps, and have only recently gotten to a point where I feel comfortable enough to actually tank in this game. Basically it's a learning thing for me. I'd rather learn 1st before taking the lead as a a tank.

All you have to do is go read through all the comments in this thread http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ry.-Let-s-vent. regarding "bad tanks" to see why I prefer to do things this way.

Even though this isn't a discussion about bad players (regardless of job) my point still stands. The shortage isn't because of lack of tank classes. It's a result of people not wanting to tank.

tanking is more importatn on this game that DPS, keep alive tanks is = to good healt of the game, for me i want new tanks but bcs SAM is the hot theme right knowwe are talking about he destiny and RDM is comfirmed as dps every person how can see more that they own roleknow whe need a healer and a tank to compensate the huge number of dps we have in this game compared to the numbers of tank jobs and healer jobs, even you favourite job become boring after play the same years with it, is natural want new forms to do you role, and DPS dont have that problem, think about if you only have 3 dps to choose.

Dude, I understand what you are saying, tanks are important, but that's not my point, and is in no way a personal attack on tanks. All I'm saying is that the shortage is a result of people not wanting to tank. It doesn't have anything to do with the number of tank jobs there are. We could have 5 different tank jobs in the game and we'd STILL have a shortage.

You also need less tanks for raids, so DPS have more slots to fill.

Offered to gear up my tank job for raids, offer was declined as they wanted that I'd stay as DPS.

Your comment just switched a light on in my head. I wonder if allowing full premade 24-man raids would increase the number of tanks playing. I mean, if you're in a large enough FC now you can fill 6 tank slots (or 3), rather than just 2 (or 1) for 1 alliance, at the most......hmmm
