You're looking at it from hindsight. It's right after the fact. But at the time, you had to take it with a grain of salt. He could have just liked Batman or Bond. Just like now. Everyone believes the Spider-man shirt is a tease to a new job. But that won't be proven right, until it's revealed that it did, in fact, tease a job. Right now it's serving as a distraction. If he comes out on the 18th and says RDM was it, or the new job is Rune Fencer, the shirt will make no sense.

A red herring is not a lie. It is a misdirection; a distraction. Something to lead an audience down a rabbit trail. But it could lead right back to the truth that it started from. In other words, the shirt became the truth, but he said it wasn't relevant at the time, which led people to discuss if it was or was not. Ultimately, they learned it was, but at the time it caused uncertainty.

Just like the SAM files could be real, or they could have been tossed in to distract us from the real job, but then later they would add SAM. So while SAM wouldn't be true now, in the end, it could be true. So they didn't lie and say it wouldn't be in the game. They simply distracted us with something else.

I really don't care what the next job is. I'll play it anyway (probably after RDM). I think it will be BLU. It makes more sense than an obscure Sam Raini, or one picture reference, even with the files. But who knows?

Or they're totally trolling us, knowing people would be looking for the data. I find it odd they'd leak SAM themselves before announcing the 2nd job. Considering they trolled us the last time jobs were added.

To troll the community on this sort of level with a job that has such huge hype would be crazy. Regardless of knowing and disliking the game gets datamined, the dataminers share their finding's with the community as a whole, not only are they trolling the dataminers but the vast majority of the community.

Also just a little input but does anyone remember when Yoshi-P specially requested dataminers to shut their sites down until the Early access/Official Launch of Heavensward? And the dataminers did just that, surely that deserves some respect right?

Every game gets datamined... No one can just counter me and say "They shouldn't do it in the first place" Like what can you honestly expect?

You can think it's BLU all you want, it doesn't negate the substantial evidence that SAM is next even despite the data files. It's funny you talk about misderection yet still think BLU is more viable than SAM, when Yoshida has very recently used BLU specifically during the JP fanfest as a misderection to avoid discussing/acknowledging SAM.
By your logic, he's used Blue Mage as a red herring to throw off people speculating about Samurai.

Except there isn't substantial evidence. There is weak speculation, less convincing than BLU. Every shirt YP has worn has been a direct clue, not some obscure reference to a guy who did a few movies compared to the thousands of comic books and other Spiderman media. A character attacked by a creature and then gaining it's powers is the most direct reference that can be made from his shirt... which indicates BLU. This is coming from the guy who wore Batman for the Dark Knight, the Scarlet Witch for Red Mage and 007 for a gunner class.

The files found are much more likely to be holdovers from when they were going to introduce SAM instead of DRK. The reason they wouldn't have shown up until now (if it's not simply a case of them not being found before now) would be because they were part of a different branch of code that was merged.

I don't think so. And I'm too much of a wuss to go out and break some rules to try and see if that moral view is commonly accepted among policemen.

I thought I'd chime in with a few things, so firstly it's been mentioned before that Yoshi-P went into great depth talking about BLU at the Toyko FanFest back in December, this should've been a glaring indicator that BLU isn't coming in 4.0. It's poor PR to talk about how he's struggling to conceptualise how to implement BLU right before /introducing/ it.

As for SAM/DNC, note he's avidly avoided talking about both of these jobs to a great extent, each time they're asked, Yoshi immediately deviates to another topic, or heck, talks about how BLU/BST isn't coming any time soon due trying to figure out how they'd work or fit into the story.

There's two weeks left before FanFest, and going by the evidence dropped by Yoshi P in these interviews, as well the datamined stuff, I think it's very very very safe that SAM /is/ coming, that Sam Raimi is the hint that everybody is denying despite it resonating strongly within the JP community. I digress, keep discussing, I love reading it!

I'm starting to feel like a broken record here. There is far weaker speculation for BLU than there is for SAM.

• Samurai was the team's first pick for the tank in Heavensward, meaning it's on the top of their list of jobs to add, it was changed last minute to Dark Knight. There is no reason to believe they would then backburner it for another 4+ years, the logical conclusion is that it's coming next.

• Samurai was named directly by Yoshida in-game during the rising event, in the same statement about working on new jobs that named Red Mage.
  

• It was then later mentioned once again specifically by name in game, acknlowledging that they exist within the lore and setting. This statement appearing in 3.5, right on the cusp of Stormblood.
  

And while it's an odd and obscure reference the shirt still has at least a credible connection, and while the Batman and Scarlet Witch shirts were more obvious, while the 007 one was a bit more vague, it's still highly plausible Yoshida chose such an obscure reference this time because we already have lots of evidence that Samurai is coming, and thus using anything that would be too easy to guess would prevent people from speculating.



As for Blue Mage, literally the only connection is that yes, Spiderman can be alluding to Blue Mage due to the fact he gained spider powers from a spider, still, there are far better characters to represent Blue Mage if they wanted it to be so obvious, such as Rogue from X-men, or even non-comic book characters such as Megaman. But that's literally it for Blue Mage, the only other possible hint was in a vague comment from the Rising Event (Not by Yoshida's character insert either) that merely reference White, Black, Red, and Blue. On top of that, the reference was not present in other languages, making it exclusively only in the English localization, weakening it's claim.

That's literally it, people have been trying to do tremendous reaches every time there's so much of a mention of the color blue. But the truth is, there's nothing in setting that really references them, and comments by Yoshida himself count against Blue Mage as he has reaffirmed his old ideas at the JP fanfest for Blue Mage, and he would certainly not discuss an unrevealed job like he did mere 2 months before it's official reveal.

You are wrong however. Aside from the nonsense of it being a "different branch of code being merged", the naming and location of the files are specifically in an EX2 folder, classifying them as Expansion 2, mirroring Heavensward folders labelled as EX1. This means they are not old files, especially since they were added along with Red Mage files of which we knew was not in consideration for Heavensward. These are new files specifically added for Stormblood, and labelled and located specifically in Stormblood categories.

Maybe. But theft and datamining is very different... In MOST cases you aren't taking profit away from a company, and you know, it's files that are literally put on your computer when downloading X Patch, looking into files ALREADY on your computer and stealing something from an outlook is COMPLETELY different and should not be viewed in the same moral standpoint. But your diverting me into an opinion based argument which I would rather avoid.

Yes, it can. It's all speculative until proven fact or fiction. Except, going by your logic, nobody talks about anything unless it's 100% guaranteed to be in the game.

There they are, mentioned together. Is it real? Should I take that as absolute truth because he said them in the same breath together? Or is that a red herring?

How about the event we had where we got to go into the developer's room in game? Where two of them were fighting over putting RDM or BLU in the game? Red herring, or am I to believe that as absolute proof both are coming?

BLU and RDM mentioned together, back as far as 2013. But wait...

Sam Raini... Sam u Raini, Samurai!? And it slings webs!? What? Because Yoshida said the next job would cast webs *wink*. So is that absolute truth? Is he being coy, or is SAM getting a net?

I find it ironically funny that you're denying the evidence for BLU, while saying I'm denying the evidence for SAM.
