I think its going to be more likely SAM (Samurai), only the name SAM RAIMI alrdy have SAM in the name, at least if that t-shirt really means anything, also the datamining from 3.5 patch showed everyone RDM and SAM job files.Photographer of course.
But most likely Beast Master (it controls a giant spider as one of it's pets?), Blue Mage (Bit by a spider to get spider powers, maybe hint at getting powers from monsters) or Samurai (Director of some Spider Man movies was Sam Raimi. SamRaimi... Samurai?)
I'd be the happiest guy in the world (in game terms) if they add SAM, that would get me keep playing the game, otherwise i would just quit, tired of playing WAR and NIN...

I'd be perfectly content with Samurai being both Tank and DD.
Maybe as a Stance system similar to AST stances, can't be changed in combat, determines your Role when queuing (Asks you to activate the stance you queued in) and Traits are modified based on stance.
Have the idle battlestance be different between stances, sheathed for DD drawn for Tank.
With some creativity, they could make it work :3
Thanks to For Honor and Nioh, people are going to want Samurai even more.
I'm not sure what gimmick Samurai would have. If you squint hard enough at DRK... all that parrying and dodging, two handed swords, abilities that get powered up through channeling inner magic/chi/focus.
I know they said they considered SAM before going with Dark Knight. It seems if anything the fact it was going to be in 3.0 works against it being in 4.0 as, to me at least, it looks like they reused a lot of the initial concept for DRK.

Unless they make Samurai different from the tanks we currently have, I probably won't be that interested in it. Just another likely-to-be two-handed sword wielder. If they give it some unique mechanics and maybe even have it use a naginata (or anything that isn't a sword) instead of a katana, I would actually try out tanking in Stormblood. :P
I'm still wishing for Dancer, but everything seems to be pointing towards Samurai.
It may be true but like i said, i myself find it overhyped because nothing from SAM really appeals to me even if i love swords. I just feel the combat may be very boring in ffxiv, of course depends how they implement it.
Some players also really think Blu may also be a candidate but Dancer is far more popular and wanted then that job.
We shall see in a few days![]()
This person understands. After playing Nioh I want SAM even more as a DPS. Kinda funny because I have been playing so many games due to no content until expansion and quite a few have samurais... quite weird too be honest. Is this year of the Samurai or something?
The more the hype builds towards Samurai, the more disappointing it will be if they do not add it in the end.
I guess ill share my thoughts..
As a dps it would be acceptable to be mostly the same as drk.imo because we dont have a dps like that. Its like having a sch or smn. One is for dps one for healing, but theres even more differences from drk to sam than sch to smn. I think that would be fine. As a tank.. I guess it could be like a ninja and use something like the mudra system. Instead it could be a damage tank like a war with lower hp. It could have the normal defenses of a war out of stance and instead of mitigation through defense buffs it debuffs enemy damage a lot. It could also instead reduce damage received based on damage dealt. For example if your dps is at 1000 then mitigate a % of damage taken..if dps is 2000 double that base mitigation value. This could be achieved by adding a buff like stoneskin to the SAM with a mitigation size of the current hit(Imagine that as an effect on something like butcher's block or fell cleave..If you crit fell cleave for 20k damage you get 20k damage reducted over some set amount of time..). though those numbers are nothing thought out..just a quick example.. Basically the better you dps the more tanky you would be.
