You have a tank/healer shortage because of the bonus system. tanks and healer being more rare, means they get into dungeons faster. the bonus system also makes them level up faster. That means the tanks and healers are at cap in half the amount of dungeons that a DPS takes. Ignoring the extra time the DPS are sitting in the queue. imo, the bonus should be given to the people who have to wait 30 minutes or an hour or no bonus given at all. Play style preference should not be penalized. But that is a different discussion.

I am aware that the original list was pruned. I was a 1.0 alpha tester. Those jobs were put on hiatus going into the beta. A lot of mistakes were made going into the beta then into initial release. There was an original story in the game but I think I didn't experience enough of it to get the full feeling for it. I mostly went through the Gridania branch and it seems the Ul'dah branch was better. More likely it was best to play all 3. After seeing how the story has been developing, it seems to me that the game is still following the original story that was intended in the first place. Most likely because while the Producer has changed, the writers are still the same people for the game. At the Alpha stage of the game in 1.0, we only saw a list of "class" names. which would later become advanced jobs, using the names we are familiar with. I am pretty sure they were more then just names on a list. FFXIV had been in development for at least 5 years prior to this point. We saw art from it at the first Fan Fest in Santa Monica. Which was early 2006. The classes were removed because they were not working properly yet.

There were serious flaws in the original combat system. They had to remove those flaws in order to fix the game. patch 1.21 is not the patch this happened in. 1.21 was the patch that added the Jobs. patch 1.20 was class reformation. But before that it was patch 1.19 that removed physical levels. Prior to this, the game was level up everything and pick and choice your abilities with your choice of weapon you wanted to use.

The primary changes from 1.21 jobs to 2.0 jobs were they were each given a different play style to define them better.

to get back to the point, work was likely done on classes prior to initial alpha for fencer, enforcer, flayer, and stavesman. fencer was likely intended to be for RDM, Flayer was likely intended for BST. FFXI's BST using Axe was not the norm. Overall I am looking more at the list for weapons then what the class might have been in 1.0. I'm not sure where the club or staff weapons would relate to job wise. But I think it would be interesting to see what they could relate to them as DPS jobs outside of casting. My feelings towards the spider man reference is likely toward a whip using job. I see the samurai references as a way to throw confusion at everyone to keep people guessing. As far as BLU goes, I see that as people having wishful dreams. as far as I have seen Yoshi-p has been very much against ever putting BLU in the game. This is my opinion and as to whither it is BST or something else, only Square Enix knows that until they announce it fully.

edit: missed the whole datamining on the samurai job. could be SE trolling though but who knows. why they added EX2 cutscene data into the file for patch 3.5 who knows.
