Red mage doesn't fit the Ala Mhigan theme either, seeing that it's clearly coming from Sharlaya. The new jobs don't need to be tied with Ala mhigo in the slightest, especially since they start out in 2.0 areas.

And no, they don't have a history of trolling people in the data files.

Im just repeating what I heard from reddit regarding the trolling with relic icons. However why on earth would they put in the red mage and sam files now six months early when they know about data mining. Yoshida has specifically spoken out against data mining in live letters and interviews and how he wants them to stop. So why would they put this info on a big spoiler in a patch 6 months early from the expansion and 1 month early from the German Fan festival knowing that every patch will be mined for even the tiniest info or upcoming spoilers?

Personally it doesn't make sense nor the Sam Raimi samurai theory. Where did you get this info that Red mage comes from Sharlaya? Is it just because its a mage? Personally I think some people want Samurai so badly that they don't even want to entertain the idea that it could be something different.

In the case of Scholar that Iromi pointed out, it was to be a placeholder, and also to move in some files early to shrink the patch day load. Its common practice, SE has many times added clothes and minions and such in a patch or two before they are released. The reason directly for Scholar and possibly the new jobs now, is that 2.0 was a major update, I mean huge even by big 24 hour update standards. They have to get as much in as they can to avoid extra long downloads which if done by enough people at once can jam things up. If these files are real, then I expect the 4.0 patch will be a monster and they want to try and shrink the load where they can.

Nothing confirmed until 4.0 goes live and people can play the class (or unless Fanfest gives us some lore info on the job), but...

The running theory is that Red Mage is linked to Sharlayan for a number of reasons.

Lore: Lorewise, Black and White Magic has been taboo since the War of the Magi resulted in the Calamity that flooded Eorzea. Red Mage has been stated to use Red Magic; a combination of White and Black Magic. For this to be possible, Red Mage would have to of developed outside of Eorzea, yet had connections to Eorzea, which is the origin for White and Black Magic. There has been a running theory for a while used to explain the magical feats of the Scions and other Sharlayans, which states that Sharlayan was founded by dissident White and Black Mages during the War of the Magi, who fled Eorzea, founded Sharlayan together, and put the focus of their studies on Learning and Knowledge, rather than power and ambition.

Even assuming that this theory is untrue, the fact remains that Sharlayan remains the (currently) most logical place for Red Mages to develop, given the Sharlayan drive for learning, not dissimilar to how they're bringing back Summoners. Its a highly magical society that doesn't scruple to employ or delve into magic others consider forbidden (look at all the Bound-Voidsent Guardians in the Great Gubal Library, for example).

Aesthetic: The reveal for Red Mage showed us (presumably) AF gear which has a distinctive Sharlayan flair to it when compared to other Sharlayan fashions such as the updated outfits of the Scions, the gear from the Great Gubal Library (Normal), and the Tomestone of Scripture set: Shire Gear. Likewise, the Magicked Crystal Medium offhand is noted to float, and the only other class to have a weapon which floats, is Astrologian, which also comes from Sharlayan.

Alisae: As of Patch 3.4, Alisae's development in combat reveals a very Red Mage like combat style of combining swordsmanship with spellcraft.

To be fair Alphinaud is considered an Arcanist but his fighting style is slightly different from WoL Arcanist. That may apply to Alisaie and RDM as well.

Honestly, Yoshi has also commented on the past that he wants players to feel excited about upcoming content and be surprised. To me, a leak like this is a red hearing to through us off so that we Will be surprised at the Fan Fest ie 3 new classes (Blue Mage Tank, Red Mage DPS, Dancer Healer)

To say that they did not learn from that mistake on such a huge reveal for an upcoming expansion borders on incompetence/intentional on the part of whoever is in charge of the patching the content.

While SCH leaked through data mining, it was certainly a different kind of leak, of which they certainly learned from that. This is simply a different mistake, potentially even from an entirely different team/person. Even then, people are human and the team is always worked hard during normal cycles, adding on the expansion stuff they're doing. So it's more likely neither intentional nor incompetence, but simply human error as these things usually always are.

No one is perfect. Accidents happen. You're being a bit ridiculous at this point. I mean just look at the recent new year's livestream event Yoshida took part in, where due to some communication error Yoshida's character was placed on the wrong server which made the game appear to be void of players which caused a huge amount of bad PR for FFXIV. That was also something that shouldn't have happened, but guess what, it did because mistakes happen.

By this logic then, Blue Mage is completely disqualified (as is Beastmaster) considering he talked about both jobs during the JP fanfest on stage (on top of him diverting the topic from a Samurai/Shogun tank conversation by bringing up Blue Mage and talking about his old idea for it to be a non-group content monster collecting mini-game essentially). Because he wouldn't discuss the jobs so plainly if they were going to be revealed in 2 months.
