I guess we are doomed to a bazillion RDM and BlueMage/BeastMaster/PuppetMaster wannabes in the early months of StormBlood.

I actually expect mindless armies of Samurai even if it is a Tank Job.

If anything I kind of expect people to treat Red Mage like Machinist with those playing RDM for the cool factor to die down over time leaving only those who are willing to take Red Mage seriously enough to play it.

Heck people thought a Gun Job would be one of the most popular job in the game no matter how it turned out but look at it now. Though Machinist still has more mobility than a Bard.

Having gravity does not a time mage one makes.
I suppose you are also seeing the arrow and the spear as haste maybe? Though I would see that point, it doesn't quite feel the same to me.

Also we're going for some trimming on abilities and they could just flat out take gravity away from AST and re-invent it for time mage;
OR
They could just use the other name (my favourite) for the spell, "Demi" and leave gravity to AST


Anyway just speculating and is off course gonna be Pictomancer in the end

Sure, gravity a time mage does not make... how ever... with other abilities like oh idk... Time Dilation, Celestial Opposition, and as well as some of their quests and lore dealing with "time magic" itself. It's not just because of an iconic "Time mage" spell, but sort of how AST was set up and their other skills as well.

I'd say that depends on the play style - No amount of cool can overcome an "Eww" factor in the long run. If it plays well and is fun however, I'd imagine many staying. DRK is the most popular tank job by now, even though WAR is better - it's gotta have some reasons and the cool factor should have died down by now.

It is not Time Mage until it gets a real Haste, Slow or a pointy hat. Their magic doesn't deal with time itself but with celestial bodies. Sure they can influence time with Celestial magic, but it is not the same. I guess they couldnt call it Time Mage since it was going to be a healer.

Blue Mage maybe? They do what others can. But that link in tenuous at best I know as well. Also, considering Yoshi-p is Japanese and his age, he may be more familiar with the "Supaidāman" tv show instead which had Spider-man but a completely different origin and story (but basically the same abilities). The familiar western Spider-man song wasn't in that show that I know of.

Based on the interview though, he seemed to say he was wearing the spider-man shirt as based on who he is and now necessarily his depictions in various movies... His characteristics and etc... But since he chose the shirt himself, it's just his idea... so it's not like its Illuminati level complicated. He probably just got a idea, bought a shirt and put it on... At least in the interview he seemed happy we are putting so much thought into it...lol

I don't get what you want at this point. The arrow is FFXIV's version of haste. Nothing is (and really shouldn't be) a carbon copy from the past.

They DO have a pointy hat. Astrologian was REVEALED in its signature pointy hat / time mage attire.

TIME Dilation doesn't deal with time? Light speed which makes cast times 0 doesn't affect time? Spear and Arrow which cause skills to hit more often aren't pseudo hastes?

Potency Enhanced arrow is probably as close as you're gonna get to a Hastaga in 14. Even if you add a haste skill, arrow already covers what early renditions of haste did. Again, it doesn't matter if it's not time mage to you, it is time mage.

No, spiderman doesn't control an army of spiders, but he does, in a sense, become like a spider - shooting webs and climbing and he has the spider sense.

What if the FFXIV beastmaster doesn't control the beasts, but rather becomes them, a la Vincent Valentine?
