(..) The shirts are marvel themed, and Blue Mage is a job that when attacked gains the power of the attacker. There are not a lot of marvel characters that gain powers that way so while it isn't set in stone, I think the mental gymnastics are silly.

Dont you think "Rogue" from X-Men would be much better for Blue Mage?
First thing you think at when seeing a spider is "Spider-Net", so its most likely some sort of "capturing".
The Problem we have here is that Yoshi-P was not saying or acting anything that fits in that theory, he was pointing to the spiderman original movies...
