I say this because when HW launched there was an interview about SAM and DRK. It was stated they wanted both but ended up going with DRK over SAM, which makes me assume SAM will remain a tank if it's released in Stormblood.

*Crosses fingers* hopefully somehow RDM can change to a healer role/queue up as healer, so we get a healer as well as a DPS and Tank.
(I know, wishful thinking)
CLAIRE PENDRAGON

2 DPS this expansion then Healer and Tank next expansion... done :P
Well they picked DRK because of the theme of the expansion and SAM didn't fit. Also they already released a eastern job pretty recently so they decided against SAM. Also that doesn't mean it will be Tank it could easily be a DPS. Also some people give the evidence that in that same Interview Yoshi personally sees SAM as a DPS. Of course that doesn't mean it will be a DPS. I am sure quite a few people want it as a DPS. Anyone I have spoken with has said they would rather see SAM as a DPS than Tank and that is coming from some Tanks.

Then again there was another interview where Yoshi said that he personally envisions SAM as a dps instead of a tank.

Actually, what Yoshi P said was that they had considered adding SAM as a tank, but they felt that DRK fit the HW theme better and they had just released NIN, so he didn't know if it would be a good idea to do another Eastern job right away or not. Also that Yoshi's image of a SAM is that of a lightly-armored (just a kimono) iaijutsu master (quick draw katana style) a la Roroni Kenshin.

Just thought to add to the light weight part with an old reference.. since I can't recall all the times it was put forth but I do remember a few times people had said he said (lol great way to start misinformationActually, what Yoshi P said was that they had considered adding SAM as a tank, but they felt that DRK fit the HW theme better and they had just released NIN, so he didn't know if it would be a good idea to do another Eastern job right away or not. And I'm fairly certain it's been said more than that (either "not sure" or "I feel like it's a DD job").
I don't mind SAM being tank (I feel the whole parry idea is a bit weird in lore comparison to other tanks but whatever, not a big deal), but at least everything I see from Yoshida either points at "not sure, tank seems more shogun" or more specifically "I want it to be DD". I see people feel really confident it'll be tank, but I'm wondering if its just their gut feeling. Since it seems Yoshida isn't confident at all on that aspect. Imo would love to see Katana in a more DD position, but I get people wanting to see the heavy armor and thinking that's got to be tank (although I think SAM would fit just fine in the same vein of armors as DRG who has heavy and light options and is DD).
My money is on SAM tank with an outside chance of DNC healer. I think the shirt is a reference to Samurai, but if not the job's presence in the game data clinches it. Assuming Yoshi has expressed a preference for a lighter armor SAM, I'd like to see a SAM tank take up the opportunity they missed with NIN DPS: evasion tank, something SE did right in XI (and no one else has since).
Dancer is a long shot but not out of the question (unlike BLU, which I wouldn't bet on at all), since I expect at least one surprise on Saturday.
If we get a healer and a tank SAM to go with RDM, that's a 4-4-7 split, an improvement in role health if you play DPS. If we don't get a surprise healer, instead we might see changes with how roles work after cross-class changes. I don't know that I would expect DPS Marauders in June, but I wouldn't be too surprised if Samurais could do either role. We'll see.

I'm reminded again of the rumor of some jobs getting multiple specs based on a variation of weapon. Like Warriors dual-wielding one handed axes for a DPS spec. I can't see it happening for Stormblood, but maybe in 5.0 or 6.0 it could be a thing. Just runs the same issue as SCH/SMN (and those two working against the system being two different jobs rather than one with two specs), in terms of which stat you'd invest in. Probably would also create gear issues or require built-in passives linked to the weapons to turn the primary stat to a DPS boosting stat depending on the weapons wielded.

I thought something similar but it doesnt seem to be the case with the reveal of RDM I did however feel like if they only were to introduce two jobs that they could have a "spec" in which they were both dps initially but could enter as one of two roles depending on a stance or something. Right now, though I feel like the path of least resistance would be 2 dps and next time 1 tank 1 healer. As far as SAM he mentioned something like yes he felt sam would fit a dps when he thinks about it, but hed be watching community input to see what the community wanted.I think in SAM case theres a good amount of desire on both sides for it to be one or the other. To be honest, I could see a melee using a stance to turn it from a dps to tank, i mean they just need good mitigation and a few cd(could even transform a damage buff cd to a defense one if in bushido stance or whatever) however Spiderman seems like a trifecta of what it actually could be to me, acrobat, bluemage, samurai, even Tamer(webbing)

), that he thought it more of a DD job.
