Omega is a high-end raid.

Red Mage is a new job, utilizing both melee rapier strikes and ranged magicks (with an action that switches positioning). While little further information exists, the feathered cap is back, and that's what matters.

The next job hint is Spider-Man. If you'd researched potential samurai / Marvel overlap recently (knowing Yoshida's pattern and what job people suspect is coming) you would have found the Google hits dominated primarily by two entities: Silver Samurai (a bit obvious) and (drum-roll, please) Samurai Spider-Man. Let's also not forget that director Sam Raimi's name is ominously similar to the word samurai ... especially when rendered in katakana. Case closed ... or red herring?

Swimming and diving will reveal underwater areas, complete with NPCs, gathering, and an entirely new beast tribe.

The Ananta are the beast tribe that the Allagans abused to create the Lamia. They are extremely adept at magicks and gemcraft and are currently oppressed by the Garlean Empire off the coasts of Ala Mhigo. They offer their worship to Lakshmi, the Lady of Bliss.

Syldra are confirmed to be a species capable of being used as mounts.

The new alliance raid will see us return to ... WAIT, WHAT!?

High-pitched shrieks of joy aside ... HOW!? Dalmasca (and perhaps Rabanastre) have been name-dropped in the past. Is Ivalice perhaps more of a regional title in Final Fantasy XIV? It's been drilled into us over and over that THE Ivalice is completely unconnected to Hydaelyn.

Take a look at the symbols around the sword in the Ivalice Alliance logo: the zodiac - including Ophiuchus at the top. These symbols from Ivalice (via the Scions of Light & Darkness and the Lucavi) have long played into the Ascian and Zodiark themes. The final zodiac stone even came from a man named Elidibus. Will we see this trend continue, or have we finally reached the fork in the road?

Confirmation that not only was Nero messing around with Omega in the 3.4 stinger cutscene, but that they'll play a role in the 3.5 story, AND be the new 8-Man Raid in 4.0? Oh, dis gun be gud.

As well as their Goddess. Iwonder if her battle theme will be as blissful and calming like Sophia

I wonder how she'll fight? Based on what little I know of Lakshmi in FF games, she seems to be alight-based healing summon. Another iteration of her is wind.

If the Ananta are thriving and have survived since the Allagans, I wonder if we'll see the tribe that summoned Belias?

I just feel the need to point out that in the Return to Ivalice image, that sword is this sword pretty much exactly. Make of it what you will.

I'm not reading too much into the Ivalice thing though, given that the development team already long stated that Ivalice is not part of Hydaelyn and are two totally separate worlds. So it's probably just a fanservice reference like FIII's Crystal Tower (Deep Dungeon/Midlight's Deep anyone?) without actually directly being the actual Ivalice one.

Also that sword with the zodiac symbols logo was the old logo for the 'Ivalice Alliance' compilation games like FF Tactics The War of the Lions and has virtually zero connection to FFXIV at all... unless the FFXIV team are backwards referencing it.... but that's just grabbing at straws by me...

But as they say, we'll find out soon enough.

I pretty much squealed like a schoolgirl with the Return to Ivalice thing (that and RDM). So, how do the Ananta reproduce? My best bet is eggs, what with the whole snake tail thing (and stressing that viera were, in fact, NOT female-only lore-wise, only gameplay-wise).

That map of Ivalice previously linked is not entirely correct, either, since Ivalice games are separated by thousands of years which give continental drifts and calamities a lot of room to reshape the land (the continent with the boxed area IS the XII map, but the landmass directly west from it is the FFT map).

Ivalice is my favorite setting so I get pretty anal about it <_<
