Agreed. Leveling is one of my favorite activities in any MMO.
Still requires leveling on a class you may not want to actually play, just to get to the one you DO want to play. That's idiotic.
I think it would be way more fun to start at lvl 30 or even 1 , so you can level up, getting more and more skills while discovering what you can do with them while leveling, but now its just like, here , dozens of new skills, have fun with that
but can live with that since i can start sooner with the msq as RDM
Just had another thought on RDM... since its a range/melee hybrid, does it count as a range ( think RDM was introduced as one , so likely be that one), or does it count as a melee? with pvp in mind since you can only have one melee and one range
What I mean is, I enjoy the feeling of going from level 1 with not much of anything and becoming more powerful over time and gaining new abilities.
At level 50 you're going to have like 20-30 abilities/spells dumped in your lap right away. Even the last set of jobs that started at 30 felt more like picking up where someone else left off than building yourself up.
It's being listed specifically as Ranged. One that has melee abilities, but is ranged for role reasons.I think it would be way more fun to start at lvl 30 or even 1 , so you can level up, getting more and more skills while discovering what you can do with them while leveling, but now its just like, here , dozens of new skills, have fun with that

I feel exactly the same way you do - unfortunately the winds of change towards more action RPG based gameplay has been blowing for quite a while now sadly, and the steady erosion of consistency in levelling is the first to be affected by that. Having said that, there were a significant portion of players who started ARR at level 50 anyway (1.0/Legacy players who started with their 1.0 levels and exp intact) so I don't know.... I can see both sides of the arguement and accept them for what they are. But I still would have preferred RDM (and the HW Jobs too for that matter) to be a case of "start the job from the beginning at level 1".
Ironically I'm now starting to think maybe SE should have stuck with the old 'physical level' in 1.0 and not scrap it in favour of separate Job levels (which were originally 'class rank'), and just have one level and equip Jobs and classes that you have to unlock as you progress through the game... but I think that ship has well and truly sailed alas.
I still don't understand why diversity is bad? It's supposed to be a natural growth of power. I don't see the fun of starting chapter 1 as Samurai instead of as a Squire in FFT? It's natural in RPG's to unlock new classes, jobs, etc as you get closer and closer to end game, rather than starting as an endgame advanced job that clears everything in one attack.
Granted, I do prefer the level 30 starting point, but starting at level 1 as a supposedly 'advanced job' is even more off-putting than starting at 50, and I say this as someone that enjoys level grinding.

"Starting Level: 50 (Tentative)"
I do hope they rethink it and pull it back to 30. Not only am I with those who really enjoy leveling up new classes, but there's another reason. If there's only 20 levels for Red Mage (And whatever other Job[s] are added) to be leveled, that means there's only 20 levels for its Questline. And while I'm sure those who don't care for stories will complain, personally I really liked a lot of the different Job Questlines. DRK 30-50 was splendid. Now true, that's still only 20 levels, so I suppose it may come down to how they break up the new Job Quest content in Stormblood. For Heavensward, some Questlines felt like genuine continuations of their previous stories, while others felt as though there was a definite split between 30-50, and 50-60, and they suffered for it.
I mean at this rate, they may as well do away with levels and do a system similar to zelda and hearts because the levels mean absolutely nothing at this point. Free lvls with drk, ast, and mch and now up to 50 with rdm and jumping potions. They mean nothing.
