I wouldn't be surprised if Red Mage starting at 50 was to quell complaints of the jump potions being pay to win. See, you can jump levels without paying cash! (And/or make things easier for people who bought Stormblood for the jobs and thus bought the jump potion)

Granted, that depends on if you can start the Red Mage job Quest below 50.

You honestly may be seriously onto something. With one jump potion giving you all story content done, that would open RDM from the start. In a sense, RDM would then be this games version of a Hero Class.

I'm confused why people are surprised they're starting at 50.

It's for the same reason AST, DRK, and MCH started at 30, the game assumes you've played up to max level at least once so you understand the game, and there's very little reason to put you on the grind again. These comments about people being upset are just baffling to me.

Which is silly. Forcing someone to play through a third of the game before they can access the job they want is a bad idea.

Think most people feel that way cus of the mass of skills we will get thrown at us, least for me it is. Then again, guess POTD could remedy that in a way

I'm not surprised, I expected it.

I just think it's dumb. They might as well just remove levels and exp entirely if they are going to make them so pointless.

Leveling new jobs is fun to me. I enjoy it. And I don't get to do it in this game anymore.

But you do, you go from 50-70, and that'll probably be a hike. Just because it's not 1-70 or 30-70 doesn't mean it's pointless.
