    Mentor help on Levithan?

I'm in Gridania and I can't find any mentors, I can't figure out how to change armor and stuff on PS4. I'm like drowning in newb questions right now.

If you see my account age, I played for like 2 days on pc, went on a year hiatus, now I'm back on ps4. Not trying to troll or anything.

Give this a look through, http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...de/ps4/manual/
A lot of this you'll probably know, but give it a look through. I don't play on a gamepad myself so I'm not too familiar with its intricacies.

Excellent start. Beyond that, you can do a player search and specifically select mentors as the target. Then you should be able to ask one (or however many it takes) for an invite to the novice network.

If you haven't yet been invited to the Novice Network (a special chat channel for new and returning players and mentor players), shout (write /sh in text field before your message) in a city and ask to be invited.

    Just ask in chat:
/sh Any mentors around? Can I get a Novice Network invite?
The /shout channel is region specific, so you might want to try that once in Old Gridania and once in New Gridania if you don't get an answer right away.

By the way, do you have a keyboard on your PS4? Though you can go to the chat box and use the triangle button to bring up the on-screen keyboard and enter text there with the controller, it's much easier if you have a regular keyboard to type on. The PS4 accepts the same standard type of USB or wireless keyboards that PCs use. Also, there's a feature called "Direct Chat" that's enabled by default on PS4 (and available, but I believe disabled by default on PC). With Direct Chat on and a keyboard connected, you can just start typing and it will automatically switch focus to the chat box, sending what you type there. (By doing so, it limits what keys can be used for action keybinds, but controller users don't need many of those anyway.)

If it's just basic getting around the interface:
The Options button brings up the main menu. Directional buttons move between its different entries, and the [X] button selects/opens the current one.

When you have a window open, it will have indicators (sometimes along the bottom edge of the window, other times next to a button or tabs) of what controller keys have special functions within that window. For instance, within the Character window, R1 and L1 move between tabs, and the triangle button saves your current gear to your current gear set. Besides the ones the window specifies, standard things are: directional buttons to move between items within the window. X to select something. O to cancel or close the window. And any place there are multiple options, the controller's Square button acts like a mouse's right-click, bringing up a context menu of different things you can do with the selected item.

And clicking on the controller's touch pad like a button cycles between open windows and HUD components.

    So, changing armour:
If you don't have a Gear Set saved yet (which you probably don't if you've just switched to PS4, since gear sets don't automatically transfer to a new platform):
[Options] (main menu) -> [X] (Character) to bring up the character window, which starts off with the cursor on the Gear Set button, so [X] again brings up the Gear Set window. From there [Up] to get to the little button with the plus sign for adding a new Gear Set. You can give it a name if you want, or just [X] to accept the default.

Back at the character window, use the directional buttons to select an armour slot, and then [X] will take you to that slot's page in the Armoury Chest. Directional buttons again to select the item you want to equip, and [X] to equip it. Once you have all the gear you want, either use [Triangle] to save that equipment to your current Gear Set, or else go back to the Gear Set button to create a new gear set for it.

It's all pretty natural once you get accustomed to moving between items in a window with the directional buttons, between tabs of a window with L1 and R1, and between windows by clicking the touch pad, rather than using a mouse to select and drag things around.
