So after, internet lossage, my laptop breaking down and months of really getting funds together again. I finally was able to get back into this game. The only issue is..it's been about 1-2 years now since I last played and while I enjoyed this game and couldn't wait to get back into everything I couldn't help but to just wander aimlessly with my lvl 50 Scholar with gear I'm no longer sure is even viable anymore and a zodiac weapon (not sure it was called that back then but yeah that weapon) that's not finished and think was discontinued.

So I'm typing this post mostly to figure out what am I suppose to be looking out for or least what's new. I left a little bit after ninja's were put in and stop following up on news since the golden saucer. I've forgotten nearly all the places and generally just need an idea of where to even go.

That or if just purely starting over with another character is the way to go..at least until I get an idea of what's new.

Check in your journal which MSQ you did last and then use google to figure out where the next quest starts. As always, MSQ will lead you to most content and further progress (except for a few optional ones that can wait). It will also lead you all the way to the beginning of Heavensward. If you want to start gaining exp now, buy HW right off the bat as lvl 50 quests will give you experience points too^^

If you have no idea about the story anymore, the inn room is your friend, use the book there to rewatch a few cutscenes from the MSQ to jumpstart your memory again

In terms of gear: the lvl 50 relic quest has been greatly nerfed, so if you are already very far (I don't remember which stage was zodiac stage), finishing it won't take too long. If you aren't, check out the ilvl 120 gear in Mor Dhona that can be upgraded to ilvl 130 with poetics. If you have a bunch of gil/crafters leveled instead, there are ilvl 115 items now that you can craft/buy. Both hold up several levels into HW, at which point you will gain lots of new gear from both quests and dungeons, so don't worry about your gear too much

If you don't remember how to play Scholar at 50, run a few low level instances first to get the feeling back before you hop back into lvl 50 content. Don't worry, there is no need to completely restart from the beginning

In short, resume the main scenario, and it will start gifting you relevant gear (high-quality) in the heavensward scenario, which means you won't need to worry about gear again until lv60 endgame. Pick up side quests you see along the way; some of the gear rewards are on side quests.

Judging by your gear you stopped playing somewhere in patch 2.2. If you had all your main story quests done up to that point you are only 62 main story quests from finished 2.0 storyline. As others have mentioned you will get relevant gear from the main story quests now. Starting over is quite the slog through quests you've already done (222 quests to get back to same point, not counting side quests)

Ninja was in 2.4, The Gold Saucer and Zodiac Zeta weapon was in 2.51, and the last major 2.0 patch was 2.55, so as far as ARR goes, you should be well caught up in things. Like a previous poster said, just check your Journal for the last Main Scenario Quest you completed and go from there. You probably just have the final full story to finish. I also recommend going to an inn to check The Unending Journey journal to watch some of the last cutscenes to get back into things.

Thanks guys. I didn't expect such a big response or one so quickly. I'll give it another go with my scholar. I still believe I have the healing macro for it. Just gotta clean out my inventory and my armoire chest and I'll be good to go again. Once again thanks. And I was gone before gold saucer. So guess I was around at 2.4 for ninja.
