A lot of the people want FFXI-2 for content reasons (rank missions, NMs, HNMs, matt fights, ballista, etc) and not so much OMG THIS GAME SHOULD BE EXACTLY ALIKE IN EVERY WAY

Actually, the vast majority of them have literally said they want FFXI with the graphics of FFXIV.

But I agree with you, there are those of us (myself included) that would like to see some of the good content ideas of FFXI, but not see it be a copy with enhanced graphics. But we are not the people to whom they were referring... not 'FFXI-2'.
