I play on console myself and didn't have a keyboard for the fist month or so. I recommend getting a cheap usb keyboard. You can plug it into the console to make it easier to communicate with your party members.

I'd add here that spending a little extra on a decent wireless keyboard will let you chat effectively without being tethered to a black box across the room. Depends on your setup obviously, but whichever way you go, keyboard for sure.
Fire 2 is really only good again 3 or more mobs.
You're at 50 so you should have flare at this point. Your aoe "rotation" should go:
Fire3, fire2, fire2, fire2, swiftcast flare, convert, hardcast flare, transpose, blizz1(depending on mp tick) then Fire3, fire2, fire2 flare again and just repeat the last combo until mobs are dead.
Single target "rotation" at level 50 should go:
Blizz3, thunder1, fire3, fire1 till oom, using the proc'd fire3's and thundercloud procs when they come up. Then when your mp is low cast Blizz3, blizz1or thunder1 again if you didn't get a thundercloud proc, then when your mp is full again cast fire3 and start the while rotation again

This game comes with a massive tutorial that is leveling 1-50 instead of manual. Read ability tooltips, read help pop-up windows, read NPC dialogue, complete Hall of the Novice, go through game settings and keybinds. There's so many things the game does for new players to help them out, much more than what a "mini-manual" would provide.
Also, buy a cheap usb keyboard as suggested. People will assume you have one and nobody's going to wait 2 minutes for you to type your messages, as you've noticed yourself.

More importantly - MMOs change over time, so any manual would soon be obsolete unless it is continually updated.
In fact, I have just Googled
http://www.ffxivinfo.com/guides/black-mage.php
and will be giving this a go tonight. Practice makes perfect I suppose!
Dont use outdated guides. They are no longer valid. Find a new one or check forum in class section. Here http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...A-Guide-to-DPS is topic about BLM. First post is very well written and although best rotation is little bit different now it is a very good place to start. You dont have to go through 100 pages of posts, look at first post and read it. It will give you very good information about BLM.
Edit: sorry, I did not notice you are lvl 50. In that case old guide will still work. But once you hit 60, you will need to adjust your rotation drastically (see guide I linked).

I'm sorry, but did you never stop to read your tooltips or anything? This game doesn't come with a manual, but it's not hard to figure out if you read your Actions and Traits. It's all spelled out in plain text how your spells work.
Edit: Actually, it just dawned on me that you probably have no idea what a Trait is. In the Character menu list, there is a menu called Actions and Traits. In there is a tab called Traits. This contains things like Firestarter and Thundercloud, the passives that you get as you level up, and the source of the "combo" that you mentioned.
