Housing idea: Change outdoor grass to suit wanted season

    Hello everyone.

First, I'd like to take a moment and thank S-E for putting so many interesting different housing items in the game to make things even more different for each and every house. I must say that I've seen some rather creative work done by the housing community and kudos to all of you for making some really unique looks!

With that, I'd like to take a moment and propose the following: Please allow us in the menu of our homes/FC homes to change the grass look outside, depending on what season we choose.

Many times, we want to have our home to have a theme. While I get the whole green is a simple and easy color to work with, I'd like to be able to change that, as the season. The idea stems from the addition of a rather novel item called the Snow Drift for this year's Holiday event. I wanted to give my place a rather Winter'eque look but I found that the drifts didn't really work out very well as the lines interceded and it looked rather gaudy. Pics incoming below:

As you can see, the lines are visible due to how the drifts are done and as such, feel more like a puzzle than anything. However, I am dealing with that as it is one of the only options in the game to change the green floor.

    I propose the following:

Allow us to choose four different 'seasons' for our grass:

    1) Spring: this one would be lush green like we have, and if you want to get neat, add a few dandelions growing here and there. While we have a slew of flowers for the floor, this isn't the grandest of things but I feel like the current green floor we have could work for spring rather wel..

    2) Summer: I picture summer grass as a bit more yellow and more sun worn as it is. A bit of the yellow look with the sun's work on it would serve as a nice backdrop for Ul'dah's strong sun in the rocks or Mist's beach flooring.

    3) Fall: For fall, I see it with a brown/orange look of a grass with fallen leaves from a tree here and there. Something to show that the season is cooling and the grass is getting ready to be renewed under the blanket of winter.

    4) Winter: Similar to what I showed in my image, I'd love to have a dust of snow covering the plot showing that we are indeed in the winter holidays.

While I know it isn't easy to actually code anything like this in for the whole game, the feel of having a season in our homes would add to the decoration we are trying to pull off.

Other additions could be added based off of the areas in which they are in: Mist can have a sandy plot, Goblet could be rocky terrain and a bit more floral and green with twigs and branches for The Lavender Beds.

While I'm sure this isn't something high priority, I think I can't be the only one that wouldn't mind changing the dull green that's always there, especially during festivities.

Hope the suggestion at least garners some thought about. Thanks for reading!

This would be a fabulous idea. I was just thinking how much I'd love truly seasonal trees, too. I have a few snow drifts in my yard, and the autumn trees, and it looks a little odd. I would love some special trees that would change with the seasons, rather than having to switch out trees.

And I echo your sentiments on trying to stack the snow drifts. A neighbor of mine has done that, and where drifts overlap, the snow looks gray and dirty. I've gone for a patchy snow look in my yard to avoid that.

I'd imagine this could be implemented similarly to how flooring is done. You'd drop a ground-cover type item in a slot and BAM, it is winter.

I did the same thing as the OP. Took about 20/30 slots to do it.

This would essentially make the Snow Drift and Leaf Pile items useless though, unless they were to make it more substantial heaps.

I'm not completely opposed to the idea, but it would need to take existing furnishings into account and/or be made into flooring pieces as already detailed by the indoor flooring.
