    Capping out the Marketboard

So I ran into an interesting strategy on the market board yesterday. I've been trying to sell an HQ item that should sell, but won't. When I checked the going rate, I found that someone had put 100 NQ listings for the item on the board, so as to push off any higher priced HQ items. The market board is capped at 100 listings per item.

This seems like shady/brilliant way of abusing in-game mechanics, so I wanted to ask if this is a legit strategy before I push him off the market board the same way. I'd rather not get banned, cause again... shady/brilliant... but in-game support said to ask about it here.

Make a variety of different HQ items to sell. Surely, this market board troll can't list 100 items for each of the different HQ item you sell. Ain't nobody got time for that.

If people really want HQ item then this limit is no problem. You have option on market board to show only HQ items.

The cost of filling out a MB with all NQ items to prevent HQ items from selling seems like a very poor business strategy. If you were to just make a different item, he'd have to take down 100 items (so roughly one stack, depending on if the item is stackable) and then make 100 more of something and use his 5(!) retainers to push your HQs off the board again.

Seems like a great expenditure of time.

I have to point out that they can have 64 retainers per account, not 5 (8 characters with 8 retainers each). That's providing they only have access to one account, there's quite a few people who have several thus could potentially have hundreds of retainers. I couldn't cope with the hassle but some people live in FFXIV.

Well if I want to buy something HQ I will scroll down until I found an item in HQ. Don't bother with that MB "bots"

So he/she used five retainers to sell 100 single NQ items?

I guess he only uses retainers for storage and making Gil is not a priority.

What relevance does this have? It still takes five retainers to list 100 items

It takes 5 retainers if they are only selling one type of item. My comment was to show that its possible to have far more retainers therefore it doesn't require a person to use all their selling ability to just corner one item, only a small part of it.

The marketboard listings are capped at 100, so if someone lists 100 NQ items, you won't be able to see the HQ items just by scrolling down. Someone above mentioned tho that we have a toggle to only show HQ items so there's that.

@OP: I doubt you can get banned for using that strategy. It's hard to determine what constitutes as disruptive behavior on the marketboard if you're just listing items. The only time I've heard of people getting banned for anything marketboard related was when someone decided to message expletives to another person because they were being undercut lol.
