While I think that people who play FF XIV without caring about the story just play it LIKE World of Wacraft INSTEAD of World of Warcraft, I could still get behind the implemantion of a story jump potion.
However, a job jump potion without any kind of mandatory skill check (e.g. Advanced Hall of the Novice) and which kills new player dungeon bonuses is something I'm very very against.
The argument of "pro-job potion"-players that the game already has bad players is ridiculous - If you have already a semi large amount of people being bad at their job, how does adding more of them not make a difference?
Naturally, not ALL players who will use a job jump potion will be the next "tank with no tank stance, healer always in cleric, dps who only uses auto-attacks" - but you also can't tell me that there will be none of those among the potion users.
I am also worried about the before mentioned "slippery slope" - I played a game called Ragnarok Online in the past, which is led by a korean company and back in the day the also introduced a "cosmetic only" cash shop which over time evolved into a full blown "OP items only obtainable in cash shop"-shop, but players were always told "that will never happen, you are just paranoid!".

If anyone here doesn't think the introduction of this will be detrimental to the community, then they haven't thought about the long-term consequences of it. Yes, it's going to make it easier for new players to get into the game (at a price). No one can argue against that. But what do you suppose will happen to players who join and don't want to do this? low level queue times will become longer as fewer people run them, unless they go about forcing people to run old content via the new relic weapons. But more specifically, use of these potions will become the new meta.
Back when these were first mentioned to us, my first thought was Is it Affordable enough to Get Mantra. With the changes they've planed for SB, I doubt I'd need to do that but it would be one reason I would. I dislike monk, cannot play it at all, but Mantra is gated at dumb heights. ;p
I am leveling an Alt on the Side, I'm recording the MSQ (so the Story Jump is not important to me) but I've spent some 60 hours doing it AND I'm Not Out of ARR Patches Yet! That is disheartening to say the least. A story Jump for players who've lagged behind/new/wanting to get to the current content is acceptable beside you can watch it all later if you so chose to + a "condensed version" will be implemented because of this.
As I'm leveling as a Paladin to a Drk once I get to Ishgard (my main's tank) I'd consider Jumping Nin or Whm (Would Ast if that was available) So the Alt would have Other Options. Those listed are things I've Leveled on my Main. I Know how to play them, but the time for it on the alt is more then I can fully do. Though I'd consider a Paladin Jump on my main because I'm lazy and I've been putting off getting that to 50>60, Started my alt on pld because I'd not leveled one yet.

There are people who will use this that have decent reasons to use this. Alts being a big thing for me and others I know.
"Welcome to the ranks of the blue mages. However, at this moment you are but an empty vessel--a base creature, weaker than the most ordinary mortal. A blue mage must wrest her strength and vitality from her enemies. Show me your hunger for unrivaled power! This is the only guidance I shall give you."
~ Final Fantasy XI Treasures of Aht Urhgan
This game isn't like WoW or other MMOs where you can come back after a multi-expansion break and jump right into content. But there are ways of going about addressing that without introducing a cash shop item. New players that pick up the game will be highly encouraged to buy these potions, because it takes so much longer than other MMOs get get into the current game. Imagine a new player who is struggling with starting out, that seeks help on the forums here or on reddit, only to be met with "lol, just buy the jump potion".
You think that won't happen? Imagine inviting a friend to the game today and take a moment to recount everything required in order to get to you. How many of you wouldn't just tell your friend to get a potion? This is my primary concern. That use of these items will become so widespread and standard, that new players will be expected to use them if they have any interest in playing, and that isn't fair to anyone, but to new players especially.

If you're stupid enough to tell inexperienced players to just "buy the potion", you shouldn't be in the Novice Network, nor giving advice on how to play the immensely complex rotations in this game.
while i don't necesarrily oppose the idea of jump potions ( i feel that as this game gets further along in expansions it will become increasingly difficult to get newer players to start playinging/stay playing considering the increasing gap between where you start off at lvl one and where the end game is.) that being said, i feel the way they are planning on implimenting this could use some work. personally, i feel that a job jump potion should only affect the player characters level, and should still require the player to complete all the class/job quests. i also feel that something like a content clearing potion isn't really necesary at this point in time. i feel that part of the ffxiv experience is clearing content with other players, no matter how old the content is.
I wouldn't, but not everyone is like you or me. When it's so convenient and easy, there will be many people who encourage it.
I'm just wondering on the timing of the release. It says it will be released between Stormblood and the xpac after so it might not even come on Stormblood launch so by the time they release it it will probably be a couple months later when mostly everyone playing on Stormblood launch is already through Stormblood leveling. 4.1 perhaps.
