We don't need another sword wielding tank class, if we're getting another tank class it should be something that's actually different.
Maybe they can RP as a tank Samurai. I mean... if we already have people who RP as Ice BLMs and Unholy WHMs who only do DPS, then why not? ..../sar
For all we know, we could be getting Beast Master as our next tank. Right now everything is all in speculation.

I think Yoshida prefers the Lightly amored samurai (think Ruroni kenshin or Samura Champloo) over the heavily armored one, correct? That makes me think Samurai will come as a DPS.
However there are the tanking titles in the game "Meat axe, meat shield" and I think the Dark knight Equivalent was "Dark driver." That makes me think they're saving the "Meat sword" title for a Samurai tank.
Unlikely considering the second title for Dark Knight is "Of the Stalwart Sword".I think Yoshida prefers the Lightly amored samurai (think Ruroni kenshin or Samura Champloo) over the heavily armored one, correct? That makes me think Samurai will come as a DPS.

Yoshida himself stated that he feels like SAM would be more fitting as a DPS (but that is neither confirmation of the job, nor a guarantee that it will be a DPS). Ninjas use daggers and short swords (cherry-picking, but most fantasy games do make the distinction between dagger/shortsword/longsword) so still technically not a sword wielding dps like we want, and Red Mage technically can be categorized as a caster still (making the melee and caster counts even).
On the subject of SAM as a dps, I do hope their weapons, in all forms, are a proper set (katana + wakizashi). Might be a stretch to ask for both usable (like stances), but would set it apart from the others. Either way, if SAM is made reality, I'm inclined to play it cause I just like Samurai
i think it has a whole different reason why we can't have the title "Meat Sword"![]()

Naoki Yoshida: "In terms of how fans reacted, it makes me think ‘so if we were to put in a Samurai, how is it going to play into the realm of Final Fantasy XIV? Would it be a tank? But that doesn’t seem to make sense because Samurai seems to be more of a DPS. Or if we were to go in the vein of a tank, wouldn’t it be a Shogun?’ those kind of thoughts start brewing in my head. Then we would look to the fan feedback again and see what the community is asking for; what they’re searching for. What their image of what a Samurai ought to be. And again, play catch a little bit and converse and see what the fan thinks and determine and discern what would work in the realm of XIV. So by having that communication and that thought process and being pretty transparent out there, then the player would understand when we say ‘ok so we’re taking this all into consideration.' ’"Source: http://www.cgmagonline.com/2015/03/1...h-yoshi-p/amp/
We don't even know if red mage is confirmed, though myself and many are pretty sure it might as well be confirmed. We also have no clue as to how it'll play at this point in time. I wouldn't label daggers as swords either, even if ninja tend to use some rather long daggers. It doesn't make my statement invalid and not worth considering. I also don't see why queue length have any relevance to hoping a class's role is one way or another. As for raids, can't base it on what close-minded people believe are best or not. Regardless, even if it was a tank, most raids would end up taking whatever two jobs will push out the most DPS. If it would end up being SAM/WAR with WAR still doing the most damage, SAM will end up MTing.
Still, we have no idea if SE has any intentions to bring samurai into the world of FFXIV currently.
