    Removing the recast timers in FFXIV - good idea?

    I mean, wouldn't that be good? I feel like the game needs to adapt to a modern meta so it invites a newer playerbase. Sure some big cooldowns like blood for blood, internal release etc. still have the 60sec cooldowns but more talking about the recast time for basic skills.

    If they did that, the boss fights would have to change drastically since melee dps would suddenly be doing a LOT more damage. And personally if they went with the 'action rpg' motif, I'd quit. I've tried games like Guild Wars 2, Wild Star, and the newer mmos done in such style and frankly they don't appeal to me at all.

    This is a nice mix of the old of FFXI and the new of WoW. And the market clearly still has a place for games with these types of mechanics based on how well the newest WoW expansion is doing and XIV is no wilting rose either when it comes to numbers.

    In any case, making that drastic of a change to the combat system is only good for one thing, driving players away.

    e: Sorry wait, this is giving XIV way too much credit. It's a slower version of WoW that somehow also lacks the depth of WoW, meaning that it gives you 2.5s to remember what button goes next in your rotation. Alright, that's clearer.

    The real question is why did you leave B&S and BD if that is the playstyle you prefer?

    Actually it's a slower version of WoW with a storyline that's seems more like it would come from XI, but that's just my opinion. I also miss the sense of community XI had but then again, given the nature of the two beasts...XI had me feeling we had to band together to survive the game at least until Abyssea whereas WoW and to the same extent XIV I don't really need anyone...ever unless I'm going for some crazy achievement grind like POTD floor 200 or Savage mode. Just duty find, get some random strangers that I'll never care about, hope they're halfway decent, hope I roll good, get my loot and go home. It's not a mindset or community I like but mmo's with the mechanics I prefer are becoming few and far between now so beggar's can't be choosers anymore.

    Though currently I find several classes are suffering from bloat. Ninja for example I feel like need a third hand just to be able to hit the buttons fast enough.

    This is definitely too much to change at once. If they speed up the combat at all I'd prefer them to first lower the GCD to a reasonable number like 2.25-2.40 seconds.

    I prefer slower paced combat myself.
    I doubt I'd be able to keep up if XIV turned into an action game.
