- Beast Master
- Blue Mage
- Mystic Knight/Rune Fencer (fits DPS better, but could be a Tank)
- Red Mage
There are probably more, but I reckon SE has enough FF classes to turn into a Tank. In the end, A DPS SAM or a Tank SAM, I dont care, aslong as they are fun to play.

Well... Who's to say we would even get a job for each role in this expansion? When talking about heavensward jobs, Yoshida talked about how his dev team didn't want to do 3 jobs per expansion anymore because it was too much work. Saying this now though... I want ATLEAST 3 new jobs per expansion but it seems like we may be getting only 2. Completely possible that we only get a healer and a dps or tank and a healer or 2 dps. You get the picture.

Didnt Yoshida say the 3 Rangers from the Summer event were a hint to the new classes? I assumed 3 Rangers = 3 ClassesWell... Whos to say we would even get a job for each role in this expansion? Don't know about that. Wasn't around for that event nor did i hear Yoshida say that. Not saying it didn't happen tho, i just wasn't around for it. Like i said, I want atleast 3 so I ain't going to argue that! xD
I really wish people would stop repeating this fallacy again and again. That's not what Yoshida said at the time at all. And people repeating themselves on it won't suddenly make it the truth.Well... What Yoshida said is that they wouldn't develop a new job for a patch (aka Ninja) at the same time as developing multiple new jobs for the following expansion. And guess what? We didn't have any jobs in major updates since Ninja.
The same thing was said to justify DRK as a tank and it doesn't seem like it had any lasting impact. So, why would SAM be any different?

He did say it though around the time of heavenswards release in a liveletter. I don't know if you read an incorrect translation or simply didn't see it but he did.I really wish people would stop repeating this fallacy again and again. That's false. Either you misremember or you misunderstood what you read/heard. Either way, since I can't find the quote from Yoshida, you're free to believe what you want. We'll soon have all the proofs we need.

Unequivocally false, take a moment to look at the Tanking forums. The amount of people trying to get information specifically to try playing DRK it's self shows more interest was garnered up from the addition of a popular job to an unpopular role. The same can found on reddit forums aswell, there is no denying that DRK brought in more TANKS.
I should know as i was a DRG main before DRK's announcement. Once EU fanfest confirmed it's role i jumped on my WAR (already 50 from 1.0) and began Tanking in World of Darkness (feeling then since people then always fought over MT i could quietly OT) it wasn't long before i a new TANK was getting asked to MT for the raid, The pressure was intense, my only consolation was having run the raid so often that i had a rough idea of how i was supposed to set up the encounters.
Tanking is rough, there really is no way to "fix" it. Someone has to lead, someone has to set up the fight for everyone else to do their job, someone has to set the pace of the dungeon, and someone has to gauge attacks and know what CD to use, or to move (sacrifice positioning). Your going to get hell for it but that's why you get to look like the typical fantasy hero always in the vanguard.
The reason DPS want a sword job is to feel like this.
There is a reason good old Ramsey never use a sword throughout this whole scene and even in later portions of the same episode.

LOL this thread got 9 likes so far, from 20 pages. Clearly they shouldn't make Samurai a tank for 9 people to play it.

I have two questions, why do we need a sword DPS, and why is it so hard to to fathom RDM being suited to that particular role? Many in this community will jump near impossible hurdles to shoehorn RDM in to the TANK role, why? We already have a magic and sword wielding TANK job in DRK. "Samurai would be to similar to DRK so it can't be a TANK because...(insert nonsense)", Samurai use over heavy swords, magic derived from the void, and have to mage MP as a primary source of combat? It would certainly be a new take on the job i'll give you that.
Secondly, why should the the TANK role not have an eastern themed job? We have the Norse covered with WAR, European aspects with both DRK and PLD and yet in these tentative first steps to the east we should find no TANKS among Ala Mhigo and Doma? Small wonder they fell lore wise, no one could muster a solid defense...
In a more recent storyline cut scene we had a character give very strong hints at RDM, even going as far as to pit their "Limit Break" like special move against an enemy DPS casters "Limit Break" ... As in DPS vs DPS LB.

I understand Samurai will more likely be DPS, it should not be. It's popularity would not only bring in people to the TANK role due to it'd thematic appearance, but it would also keep current TANKS from jumping ship to DPS in the early days of anew expansion. Time desperately needed to hook new players just coming in to the game. It by merit of popularity, would allow for faster que times in DF, provide a solid solo experience for those just coming in to the game (soloing as a TANK is much easier than the other roles, particularly in trials that often negate the use of party members and chocobo's, something new players would not even have access to...)
When it comes down to it we simply have different views of what Samurai are. DPS Samurai supporters seem to want this.

I'll speak for myself and say i want this as a TANK. Though i suspect we'll know soon enough, something tells me not only will we get RDM official announcement, but also Samurai, complete with role selection.
