All that is needed is the ability to "paint" the plot as it currently stands. Even a white grass would look good (think hoar frost). Obviously the palette would have to be limited extensively or, harking back to what I remember we had in WorldsAway, special spray cans that could only be used in conjunction with specific items.

So many ideas, so few developers.

They do it already in Ishgard & Coerthas so it's something that is possible to do but it probably is a limitation of the current engine & PS3 matters. There's bound to be a way to use the graphics engine to toggle snow on & off without individually coding each separate entity. I imagine that it uses too much processing power to meet the current minimum specifications but we know that 4.0 raises those. Yay!

They can let us paint furniture and apply different textures... I REALLY doubt the true reason is engine limitations unless they hardcoded something ridiculous.

You are playing the same game? They seem to make backward mistakes like this all the time. Wouldn't be surprised if it has something to do with the fact they are open zones and how the ground is coded for the whole zone. They would then need to make special items that would allow for new ground textures. Also the threat that fixing said problem means they would need to cancel the gear in 4.2.

Or they could have implemented instanced housing and allowed for unique skins and weather effects.

The worst part in my opinion is not the clipping itself but the fact that the edges of the snowdrifts are tinted darker, making the edges stand out a lot when stacked on top of eachother. If the texture was a more solid white it would be far less noticeable.

Why didn't they make a snow drift tile option? Then you could have one that is mean't for patches of snow in the garden and a housing item meant for the entire yard. :P

Honestly though, if they were to rework the garden they should create an option like the flooring and wallpaper inside the house, allowing you to add a skin over the grass, etc.

Look on the """"bright"""" side: If they had made swappable yard floors an option, then they would be destroyed when you replaced them, just like every other indoor and outdoor fixture is. So if one of the event items had been a yard floor, it would have been destroyed as soon as we swapped it out in Spring, and we wouldn't be able to replace it until SE put it on Mogstation for $5 in a year.

At least with the snow piles we can keep them forever (at the cost of -20 inventory slots).

SE could make an exception with "Yard Skins" and make then non-destructible, the objective after all, is to decorate the plot with the current season of the year!...

They could be crafted by DoH jobs or even through the Workshop, although I'd prefer the first method!...

SE doesn't have to sell everything on the Mog Station and even if they did it would be fine as long as they were NOT single use!...
