As I have learned from all of the other mog station threads, there will be people that agree with you, but there will also be people who think that it's perfectly fine and others who think that everything is overboard.

I, personally, think that everything is overboard. Past mounts and minions are as overboard and ridiculous as this Christmas tree.

In 1.0 it was "missed the event? missed the reward"
Except the very first 2 events, because those gears were crafted and sold in the market wards

Every event has its one time items that will be added to the cash shop the following year.
So for example if there are some seasonal items you want now that you can get ingame, better stock up on them.

Optional Items were added October of 2014. With the previous year's All Saints Wake being the first addition for seasonal items from a past event.
This was all planned by Square Enix.

    - 1.0 was 1.0, it was hard enough just to retain subscribers.
    - ARR's 1st year is not a past practice of how everything will be.

Past Seasonal Items on the CS has continued that practice since its implementation.

"Since the announcement in Las Vegas concerning the optional item shop, players around the glove have been very vocal with their opinions. While many comments have been positive, there have also been a number of players who have expressed their worry wondering what is going to happen to Final Fantasy XIV in the near future. I want you guys to know, *points to Yoshida*, I don't have to translate that, no pay to win.

So I have been checking out the forums this past week, and we've heard a lot of different opinions including, for example, will future minions only be obtainable through optional item shop? No. Some people are worried that maybe we will sell dungeons. No pay to win.

Again, through the optional item shop, again, will be you have to pay for these items, with those funds we can do many different things for the game, for example, using that money to create more minions and more vanity items to include in to the game, and to obtain in game. Again, using those funds to create new vanity items and new gear like the spring dresses. The profits can also be put towards creating more housing options, more servers, so we can have more plots of land. And finally the biggest thing, is using these profits to create a better play experience for players, like adding the new EU Data Center.

The money we get from these optional item shops, we want to give back to the community. It's all about giving back to the community that has given so much to us, and working together to build a better Eorzea."
    - They delivered an EU DataCenter.
    - There are plenty of ingame achieved minions, mounts and vanity gear that have been added since implementation of the CS.
    - They expanded housing wards and added apartments.
    - 4.0 is bringing in a new housing district.
    - 4.0 is expanding inventory and upgrading servers.
    - Wondrous Tails has some cash shop minions as possible rewards ingame.
Dress-up version minions, not cash shop. TY for the correction.

It's one thing to have an opinions for / against the CS, its items, and its pricing.
It's another to exaggerate and over-bloat information to make your opinion, seem set in stone fact.

I wish SE would make an official statement on the actual forums to follow up on their original statement I quoted above regarding the CS and how much it has given back. While staying true to: no pay to win.

While I am agreeable with the rest of your post in that the way they're doing things now is fine, and profitable in a way that we as players can see, I just wanted to point out that the WT minions aren't the same ones as the Mogstation minions. Same character, yes, but different minion.

You are correct, they are "Dress-up" versions. My mistake.

Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, but I recall the event items still being tradable when first released, just not via the marketboard. And even if that's not correct, the market-prohibited status was typically removed after the next event or the next patch, both of which have passed since the Rising items were released, and yet they remain both untradable and market prohibited.

I would very dearly love to be wrong, but the lag is making me worry.

I am much happier that they offer something unique each year, rather than rehashing the same stuff each time. Variety is a great spice, and even if this leaves some people without specific items at times, it only gives them a sense to be creative with their decorating.
I see you express this sentiment every time the issue of exclusive items or glamour comes up, and I'm still utterly baffled as to how you came by the conclusion that having fewer options available will somehow result in more variety. It's very hard to be 'creative' when you have only one decoration at your disposal, unless by 'creative' you actually mean 'deciding whether to use this one thing or just give up and not decorate at all'.

Conversely, if you have ten different items to choose from, you can choose to use all of them, five different ones, only one item, et cetera. If everyone has access to all ten of these items, the people who decide to use all of them will have all the same stuff out, but the combinations and quantities of each will most likely be different, given that more items = more possible permutations of their use. Meanwhile, if I choose five decorations and my neighbor also chooses five, the chance that we'll end up with all the same stuff are pretty low, and it's even less likely that we'll use them all in the same way.

My point is, the potential for creativity is directly proportional to the number of options you have available to you, not inversely.

To exemplify that fact, a small example:

If you have 2 items, you can choose to put neither, 1, 2 or both down. 4 Options. If you have 3 items, you can choose to put neither, 1, 2, 3, 1 and 2, 1 and 3, 2 and 3 or all of them down. That's 8 options. Now with 4 items: Neither, 1, 2, 3, 4, 1 and 2, 1 and 3, 1 and 4, 2 and 3, 2 and 4, 3 and 4, 1 and 2 and 3, 1 and 2 and 4, 1 and 3 and 4, 2 and 3 and 4 or all of them. 16 options. The amount of options (and thus, diversity) doubles with every item you add here. And that's only unique combinations without paying regard to order/placing. If you do, it becomes exponential.

Anyone with a Starlight Sentinel and Empty Twinkleboxes can have a Christmas tree with presents under it; not everyone would use those to turn an FC room or apartment into Saint Godbert's office.
