On the other hand I appreciate the honesty but the tone seems more pessimistic than in the numerous fansite interviews.

They seem to be saying that big changes are coming tot he world graphics but the core of the game pretty much is what it is and they don't want to change it too much.

I was one of those who voted for dramatic changes to the way we play the game and this interview leaves me wondering if I have unrealistic expectations of the upcoming patch.

As always no amount of speculating will get us closer to the truth until the patch is playable.

Since gamasutra has previously closely followed SE's financial situation and posted several game design articles referencing XIV when it comes to economy, player rewards and MMO launches I hope Gamasutra can ask some relevant questions about the current situation that fan sites don't cover.

Yay, Gamasutra articles are nearly always a worthwhile read.

His knowledge is limited yes, but he is at least making the attempt to justify the 'why' and give detail on the 'change'

His over all points are positive towards the game, but he is placing blame too much I guess over looked it as naivety knavery.

All the knowledge we possess is limited... that sounds like a philosophical assertion, which it is, but more particularly, I am referring to the inner movements of a corporation whose workings and hierarchical protocols we know very little about.

The don't-blame-Tanaka,-blame-Wada-instead movement tires me, because it smacks of a rather lowbrow, stick-it-to-the-man credo, based in NO FACTUAL INFORMATION. I blame the most likely culprit, the inept director who also approved the design of the miasma that was the FFXI interface. (Remember feeding your baby chocobo?)

The comments are actually a really interesting read on gamasutra since a big part of the members are industry insiders and that's the only place where somebody mostly (a generalization I know) is just stating their opinion assessment of the whatever situation in question without all this fans Vs. trolls b.s. that i'm frankly really tired of.

Personally I still think the only opinion that matters is that of those who are NOT playing since those are the customers SE needs to win over to keep the updates coming to us who are playing for years to come.

SE fans seems to be please by small things but sadly they aren't big enough group to keep the money-flow healthy.

This is why I agree with one of the commenter's opinion about really bad timing when it comes to the pay-to-play announcement.
