That almost makes it sound like they already had the resources for something along the lines of Chemist. Or at least the core concept in mind to make it later on.

There were other interviews, some i think were video so i couldn't find them. You kind of get the sense that they just did a rename/re-art the stuff to fit an astrologian from chemist.
But there was an interview saying things along the lines of picking up random ingredients and having a set of skills to mix and cook them that turned into the cards
there were a couple that talked about trying to keep the class using a gun even after officially making it astro(including the one i posted)

I feel like chemist was very much developed and they just turned the potions into sparkles for lore

That doesn't mean you can create a class only one way.
