Do you not remember the gap between 3.1 and 3.2 (or was it 3.0 to 3.1)? Everyone went on vacation after Heavensward launched, since they had been working tirelessly since the ARR beta.
This killed me. I'm dead. Bury me.

don't worry, equality happens:The only armor in FF XIV that really stood out to me as being gross with gender differences was the ARR Dragoon job armor and how it didn't cover stomach on female avatars. But I wouldn't even call that "slutty", it was just kind of awkward. Like I can imagine that little points of the armor poking the crud out of the girls who have it on.

Admittedly, I don't really see much armor in this game I could consider being 'slutty'? Then again, a large part of why I avoided mmo's is because the vast majority of them have vaporwear for gear, and I prefer something a bit more... realistic, otherwise the chainmail bikinis tend to ruin my immersion. I say this as a male, yes.
I suspect it's game telemetry used to track popularity of gear, which would be very useful to know. I also would guess that he means players of female characters, not female players. Just my guess...
p.s.
Bikini armor for the win!
Yeah, because a hempen cowl makes all the difference to a spear strike....
This kind of argument ignores a simple 'fact'. Other than the large, bulky metal armor, all other gear in the game offers little protection. DoM gear in particular is as protective as your average clothing, so what difference does a bare stomach make? The point being that all our armor protects far, far more than the materials it is made of should, there is clearly something more than physical protection involved, so why worry about those gaps?
Bikini armor for the win!
Is that the era when girls could play however they liked precisely because people thought that girls didn't play games? When online gaming was for G.I.R.L.S. not girls...As a female, I'm the opposite, I always play a female character and am saddened when I can't choose revealing armor (if that's what I want on my character). The option shouldn't be gotten rid of; but maybe I'm just too old school, from "back before females played games".
I find the attitudes of some males to be almost puritanical when it comes to gear and things like bikini armor.
Folks should stop trying to tell women what they should or should not wear, it's counter productive.

Everyone knows that "fact" you name - The thing is simply that if you stretch things too far, people are dropping the willing suspension of disbelief, with "too far" being entirely subjective.
Ever noticed these completely pointless shoulder pads on otherwise cloth/leather armor, like on Clouds outfit? That's there for precisely that purpose. When he's fighting against Sephiroth and his Masamune, it doesn't realistically make a difference if he's wearing that outfit or a speedo, because the blade is sharp enough to cut through cloth easily. But if you were to actually put Cloud in a speedo for the scenes, Advent Children would probably be called an immensely stupid movie.
I agree with you, but that is a different degree of suspending disbelief to that required to cope with the belly window type of thing. As for armored bikinis and the like (aka more revealing armor that still attempts to be armor), there are plenty of examples in popular culture of obviously flawed armor being worn by female warriors who subsequently kick the crap out of everything in sight. Xena being a good example, although her's is not quite bikini armor.Ever noticed these completely pointless shoulder pads on otherwise cloth/leather armor, like on Clouds outfit?
