The best thing you can say to people who want to speed run, is why didn't you just Party Finder it?
Or
If you feel so strongly about speed runs why not just solo it so you can go your own pace. lol trolling the troll
My response to speed runners.
It's a problem, but most of the time I find it fairly entertaining when I'm in a pug, and there is an obvious problem with one person trying to speedrun through by splitting from the group. Now in the first few floors, sure this is fine, Preferable even. but when you start getting into the later floor sets, blowing up becomes more prevalent.
A lot of times, when it's a situation where it's 3:1, and that one person is running off solo, the three of us sense this and start running as a group until the other either wakes up and sticks with us, or eventually dies from not having backup. And then we all say to that person, "gee, how unfortunate. wonder how that happened".

Potd is the fastest exp atm unless you're a tank (dungeons), so people lvling alts are using it. Aetherpool is also a major benefit of going there.
When you go in duty finder however you subscribe to the full experience, no one is allowed to deny you aetherpool, it's a really integral part of potd.
When I want to rush I go and stand in the teleport circle if we pass by, people either join or go on exploring according to their needs, if not everyone joins everyone just concludes the person needs chests and we do full runs.

I just finished the first 100 floor last night, on our 91-100 floor the summoner and I were following the two tanks and grabbing stuff, then we realized they were skipping rooms. We tried for a silver chest and got overwhelmed, died. They came to us (they were sitting at the portal) and asked us what we were doing. We said we're not 99 light yet like you so we needed the silver. Him and his friend both were tanks and 99 light. I figured they got their last light on this run and wanted to gtfo.
They made it clear that by default PoTD is made for speed runs by default for accursed horde and anything else (silvers / xp etc...) should have been specifically stated. It would explain why the WAR never said they were there for hordes only. They ended up helping, but eventually they kicked the summoner and started to skip stuff again.
While I agree that communication is the key, all the times I've been through PoTD I've rarely come from someone who isn't looking for silvers or getting some chests for later floors.
I don't think you were wrong, I don't think they were wrong. I think everyone has come up with their version of what is a default and it will rarely clash. Then again..I could be wrong for assuming that! I think I just got two raiders who are use to their ways...but at least I got the clears.

^^^ This! So much this. It's amazing how many speed runners have no idea how to play ANY of their classes correctly, but expect people to run through this at break neck speed, while making up for their lack of skill/reasoning. These are usually the clowns that get booted, or carried, later in floors 80+. Somehow they overlook the fact that aether arm/armor affects their dps, health, and damage mitigation. Nothing screams "idiot" faster than a level 60 Maurader/Gladiator with 5k health getting slapped down to 2% health by a floor 80/90 mob or boss on one hit. And they usually want the other dps/healers to help keep them alive when they mess up. Learn the game first, learn your class, slow down, and stop being a dingbat.
I AM the gosh darn diddly danger!

Well I got kicked last night, without any communication at all, because I was opening chests (only thing I can think of). It wouldn't have annoyed me as much if they hadn't waited until the 7th floor in so I lost all the upgrades & accursed hoard. I needed to do it for WT so it was extra upsetting. I reported them.
The night before myself & two sprouts got an AFKer half way through. Just stood there, without saying a thing. Checked them out & they'd reached +99/+99 at the last chest so just decided not to bother. The sprouts didn't know what to do because they had never had to initiate a kick & progression is impossible with an AFKer. It was a scummy thing for that player to do, especially to new players. It also meant we had to complete with 3 players as it didn't fill back up.
TL;DR - PoTD is Eorzea's Love Canal (look it up).
