A conflicted whm considering switching my main to astro

So I just started Astro recently and I'm conflicted my main has been sense I been playing a whm. Bu if I'm honest I am clearly better playing and astro this could be because I'm more experience at healing now but I really just feel I'm better at the job. I think its because with whm I want to out dps the dps , the stones just do really great damage but its also gotten me into trouble sometimes. Astro also has an instant heal which I like with a shorter cool down than benediction from whm this has helped me when tanks lose argo to instantly heal myself and I also love the cards. My question is how do you guys deal with change I dont wanna feel like I'm kicking whm to the curve but I just have to be honest I'm better as an astro while I do dps with only six attack abilities its just easier to deal with. So have you guys ever had to admit u where better at one class and switch ur main class are did u just stick with ur main because u where already attached to the class. Just wondering everyone's thoughts on this.

    This. So much this.

One of my friends played all the way to 60 on SCH and after a year decided to try out AST. He really enjoys AST but every now and then he still switches back over to his SCH. It helps with burnout. You wont get as bored if you're playing a class that feels different. It's one more job to gear up, but the benefits outway that little factor.

I def wouldnt stop playing whm , its more of an awaking of sorts like u play a class ur whole game journey and then u play another one and its like how am I better at this class then the one Ive been playing all this time in such a short period of time. And I think what it is not so much the mitigation for me but the fact that its easier to get out of dodge with light speed and u having an instant heals and regen aoes heals much earlier on than whm. And also just the fact that I dont feel bad just pure healing and throwing out my dots with astro we as with whm I feel like my stone damage has to be added where as I don't with astro even do I still do just doesn't fell necessary. But im just curious if other players have had this experience and felt bad about possibly switching their main.

This is really the beauty of this game. You can, on the same character, switch jobs with no consequence. Getting bored of WHM? Play SCH or AST for a bit - there is no consequence, and almost all of the gear is shared between them, so you're also gearing up your WHM without playing it. Want to switch back? You just need a weapon, and those aren't super hard to come by.

It's actually the biggest reason I'm working on WAR, so that when I (eventually) start raiding, I can switch jobs as the encounters require (since raiding gear is role specific instead of class/job specific). If a fight has a lot of magic damage or adds? DRK. Physical damage or really heavy tankbusters or group damage? PLD. Tight DPS checks or low incoming damage? WAR. It might be a bit more nuanced, but there is basically no downside to switching jobs encounter to encounter (also helps the gameplay stay interesting).

Because leveling more than one job is a PITA due to lack of questing content, it's entirely a dungeon/FATE grind and some of us loathe endless repetition simply to level-up: it's why SE's 'one character can do it all' is broken for those of us who enjoy questing and leveling .. and this will only get worse in 4.0 when the percentage of MSQ/side quest conent is due to vastly increase, leavling even less quest content for secondary leveling.

I don't recall where the OP said any of this ^ was an issue for them....not everyone thinks it is a PITA so based on the information there is nothing wrong with the statement Zomkei said.

How??? I have tons of quests all over the place, still haven't finished the MSQ, and have most jobs at 60. There's plenty for me to level up from through questing. But then again, my choco is at 20, and not through having other people feed him. It's all about how you play.

And OP, I go back and forth between my main Whm and my Ast. Ast just can't compare to my Whm, it never does in any content. Switch back and forth. I switched from Drg as my main when they kept nerfing Whm >.> so yeah, just switch back and forth.

I don't feel there's anything wrong with your feelings. If you play something better and enjoy it more, then make the switch. No need to feel guilty about it unless you're raiding and the change will cause a big shift. However, in this particular case, it's not like you can't play both either. The Diurnal AST kit and WHM kit has enough similarities where you won't need to change your play style too much. Also the gear is interchangeable, aside from the weapon, and secondaries mean very little to healers in the grand scheme of things so you can swap whenever you feel like it. I personally switch between the three whenever I DR since I feel the urge to play one over the other for more low-end content.

Healers often have shared gearsets so you can play both easily. Sometimes they don't if they add job specific gear, but it only happens every once in awhile and that is the only time you'd kinda have to make a choice.

As for instant heals at 60 both have about the same setup. WHM has Benediction and Tetragammaton; AST has Essential Dignity and Lightspeed.

I also was a WHM from 1.0 until 3.0 but switched to AST when they added it. It is because I liked the style of the job and its base around tarot cards. I still like WHM too; AST just suits my personality more.

So if you have more fun or find AST suits you better then just switch, keeping in mind you can always play WHM when you feel like it too.
