Have you ever used a chat system? Even just once. There's usually Away, Busy, Invisible, ect. It's not about a social aspect. Hell, walk around a big city irl and- oh boy, not everyone is talking to each other. Sociability plays a role in raids but PvE? Not so much.
Chill.
Chill if you dont want to be social set yourself busy if you still want to receive tells add ppl outside of the game. The point if you gave such status it wouldn't make a nice impression for new players. Busy status is fine as it is if someone stalk you report. Lol And your rl example doesn't make sense since u can try to talk someone. Imagine all ppl with status that let u receive /tells only from friends. New ppl wouldn't have such a nice time playing a game and I say this as a person who plays alone alot of times and not being social myself much Ig and irl.Have you ever used a chat system? Our only other option now is busy, which blocks ALL of the tells anyway. So your argument isnt really valid either. You cant say it'd be bad if new players couldnt send people /tells, but its ok for people to use the busy status, which STILL stops the new players from sending them tells.
Find a different argument, cause your current one doesnt work.
Its valid since players most of the time dont use busy status cause they CANT receive /tells from friends if they could turn it on and still receive not only would it defeat the purpose of /busy but also more ppl would turn it on. I dont even know what the problem is if its all about that rmt tells you may want to look for a solution for rmt tells and not change the /busy option. I played on OPs server since 2014 and right now I dont get any rmt tells on that server either only the ones in /say chat. Our only other option now is busy, which blocks ALL of the tells anyway. If you are "busy" why would you want to receive /tells from anyone on ur friendslist anyways. All the other reasons from OP was just meh as if someone is searching your name on player search and then? Like its a bad thing that someone knows in which city u are in + I doubt that anyone keeps searching for OP on player search. If they really stalk you (like following in a city) busy status wouldnt do anything only reports can help then.

Busy also blocks trade attempts, invites, ready checks and more. The proposed status only hides people from the player search - it still allows you to send tells to them if you can see them. It actually would even still allow you to left click the name in the chat and send tells that way if it appeared via emote or something that's been said. The proposed status prevents people from following you around by searching for you and porting around, /busy does not. It's very much different in purpose and consequently, no, it would not defeat the purpose of /busy one bit.
That aside, what newbie even uses the player search to ask random people questions? >_> I can see the novice network, or /shout, but player search?
Where did I said newbie ask via player search? >.> Now tell me how often someone is keep searching your name on player search to follow you around and tell me such thing is needed cause of that. You can just report those people which is more effective.
I think you misread the OP. The idea is actually quite nice for filtering out RMT without otherwise interfering with the ability to communicate with other players, and also hides you from stalkers (which is a thing, this is the internet and anonymity brings out the worst in some people).Chill if you dont want to be social set yourself busy if you still want to receive tells add ppl outside of the game. What the OP said about blocking tells and invites, if you re-read, is:
All the newbie who /tell you will be doing it in proximity when they see you running by. No negative impression left at all. While allowing your LS, Friends, FC mates, and anyone in proximity of you to still /tell, invite to group, whatever.
