i don't see why crafted gear shouldn't be better ( or just equal with) than raid gear.
people mainly doing raid for items.
and if we can craft those items , doing raids can be purely for fun.
i assume really lots of ppl doing raids while they don't want to do , but they do it because they want ( need ) items.
if crafted gear has same quality with raid gear, people can do raid only for challenging , achievement , or fun such.
why? i really don't understand why raid gear should be better than crafted gears? why?

Sit in town, craft better gear, then don't raid because you have the best gear? Um.. k.
if you are doing raid for items , you are happy because you can craft it without any worry about time spending or shitty teammate annoyance ,
if you are doing raid for fun you are still happy , because you can challenge it with people with same purpose ( not with people those i don't care at all if i can have items )
    why it shouldn't be?
    why?
(yea if you want something prove you've beaten hard content that can be shown everyone , it should be implemented i think though ,
but i can't understand why it must be world's best gear.
in FF V , if you beat Omega , you'll get just tiny medal thing.
but isn't it enough for proving you've bested hardest enemy is it ?)

at most there should be half the gear crafted and half is dungeon for best gear. this whole "everything can be crafted to be top notch" needs to go. if i have no reason or push towards dungeons then it's time to go to a different game, ffxiv shouldn't be a just crafting game. fact mmo's need to stick with gear and weapons all being endgame and dugeons, while crafting being all things that are just usable items like potions, food, ammo, gems for gear that have timers on them, and what ever else.

but at worse 2-3pieces crafted then rest need to be dungeon to be all topped out. sounds reasonable to me. you can buy all your gear in games like warhammer now but it's a pvp base game so it doesn't totally kill the game, it will for ffxiv. people need to stop trying to create reasons on why buying your gear is ok in a video game/mmo where top gears should be a challenge to get, not one shoting mobs or buying rmt mats in the wards and begging someone to make them for you.

"Skillchains" have come back as self combos, (where is the party play?)

All classes just lost 10+ abilities each (understandable assuming the skills don't suck)

There are not Damage over time spells (saved for a new class?)

There are no enfeeble spells (paralyze, slow etc...)

I am not complaining, but I really need help in seeing the vision SE has for this game. This vision is not like any other game I have ever played, and I can not see how innovating new mechanics in FFXIV a second time will help. This game needs some solid, already tested, mechanics. Ones people know, ones people agree are staples to the MMO genre.

A messed up Elemental wheel, a lack of debuffs, no party incentive (except loot? Thats another story... crafted vs NM loot... jesus...)

If crafted gear is better or equal to raid gear, why raid?

    Translation for the above:

I don't agree with some of the changes, wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha! wha!

ehhh i understand the whole challenge theory, and rewarding effort and skill, as well as adding interesting carrots, but its really very simple when you think about it. One group of classes soul purpose, is to create items, theoretetically it has to have some hand in creating the best items in the game.

The simple answer is to have SOME items that need you to get drops or items from a hard dungeon or raid to craft them. But to be honest, even beyond that, if they introduce some raid type gear, that is as good as a 5 materia HQ item (which is not what the game was balanced for btw) then they need to make it take as many man hours from players to make as the materia items, and honestly i dont think anyone wants to see a raid they have to do for 500 hours on average before they see an item.

even if they added materia to ifrits, they would have to make them as rare as the equivalent crafted item, or else, they would basically be a shortcut for whatever items. IE if ifrit takes 1/10 the time to obtain, then not many would bother wasting the time making any materia gear, just get ifirt and upgrade it, thats the easier path by far.

    So true.
If anything I think FFXIV development team has listened to us TOO MUCH so far, possibly :P

Getting back in-topic: in the first months after the release of the game I had the same issues, couldn't see where the game wanted to go, it just seemed to me they were shooting in every direction hoping to hit the right target.
Also, they were trying to please the widest possible audience, with the result of displeasing everyone, to different degrees.
This is not wow, it doesn't have a 11+ millions players user base, you can't think that way as a developer.
This will be a niche game, with maybe 1 million users if things get PARTICULARLY good.
Under this light it's certainly better to make the game walk on a clear path, even if a bit narrow. That way you won't be able to "please everyone", but at least those who share the same path will be VERY happy about the game.
Dunno if the metaphor I used succeeds in delivering the message I have in mind.

So yeah, on the first months I clearly felt they had no clue what was going on (wether or not this is true, it's just the feeling I got). Lately I really think Yoshi-P knows very well where the game is headed, not everybody will like it maybe, but he knows where he wants to go at least, which is something.
This doesn't show everytime on the live FFXIV because of the limits and the inheritance left to the new team by the old one... and I'll admit the class reforms are surely a bit confusing, but I'm sure 2.0 will be the light for this game and its audience, and we'll be really able to see then how worth this game and the new development team really are

The answer in the simplest terms is it takes multiple players, organization, and effort to put a successful raid together. Crafting you sit in town, solo, and just grind for the best items. One supports the point of a MMO, the other doesn't.

If you want crafting to have a purpose there's consumables, possible upgrades to raid gear, redying, intro gear for raiding, etc. Plenty of solutions to keep it viable.
