So I was out exploring Coerthas with a friend when we stumbled upon a Castrum in the distance but we couldn't figure out which one it was..anyone have any idea? I was over near Monument Tower in Coerthas Central Highlands Edit: I know it looks a bit like Castrum Marinum but I think it's the wrong direction..I could be wrong though

The angle seems all wrong though...there's no huge mountains nearby. I mean there's one nearby but it would block the view of the portal no?

Thats true..I was torn between that one and possibly a portion of Castrum Occidens over in La Noscea that we can't get to since that was facing south east and both were kind of in that general direction

Checking the Encylopedia Eorzea that is actually Castrum Aquilonis you are seeing in Coerthas. I believe it was abandoned due to the cold.

Really that was in the lorebook? I tried looking myself but I did a quick look through, maybe I should read it again. Also thank you, me and my friend were going nuts last night trying to figure this out and its still bugging him at work lol

From an old gamerescape interview:

F: There’s a silhouette visible from Monument Tower in Coerthas that looks exactly like Castrum Marinum, but the size and angle seem to be all wrong. Does Marinum have a twin out there?

KF: Oda-san says that this is a place called Castrum Aquilonis. The Empire started building it, but it was way too cold; the climate was way too harsh. They stopped halfway through, it’s now abandoned. That’s all I can say, because that’s all that’s been written.

There's also a small map of every castrum and Garlean installment in Eorzea in the Tales from the Calamity section on page 54, but I didn't see any additional information on Aquilonis on a quick scan.

I recon it would have real potential as a dungeon. Just imagine we go to an abandoned Garlean Castrum to try and find like some type of Garlean communication Magitech to hack into the Garlean Military Communication network.

I think some kind of Garlean research facility would make a fantastic Deep Dungeon too. The whole changing layout could be a feature of the facility and the alternate progress could be some kind of Aetheric suppression field where we are forced to use magitech(the dungeons version of weapons and armour) to use our abilities.

That's cool, I didn't realize there was a Castrum in that area... it would of made for an awesome dungeon or instance, maybe they'll look at that area in a later expansion. This game is full of inaccessable areas that look like we might go there one day.
